Breeding Question
I have a old Gr.Nt.Ch. female that has been a outstanding reproducer, I have bred her to 4 different male dogs thru the years all bred a lot like her. My question is with her age being a major factor She is 14 but 4 months ago I got a litter of puppies out of her, I have a son of Her's that is as good as I have led out of the woods, his first litter is doing awesome, what do you think about breeding her to her son? Too close? or what? I have a male her that I have bred her with 3 litters and all done great from him but just thought of trying to do something different. Is it worth a try? or No go with the proven thing?

If u don't breed her to her son u r going to wish "u had"....
She's 14 and has given you 4 good litters. I would let her live out the rest of her life in ease. You would be putting her and the pups at risk, imo.

One of the best reproducers the breed has ever had was Hardwood Homer. He was a product of Skuna River Fred crossed back ( accidentally ) on his mom Raccoon Valley Queen. Ol Homer wasn't to shabby in the woods either!
I say go for it.
Not sure I would at 14. Can you find a younger sister to her and breed her son to the aunt?

She is the last dog I know of living out of either parent, She is healthy as can be, she raised a nice litter of pups 4 months ago without any problems.... I really haven't made my mind up yet, but if I don't breed her to her son, I will always wish I had...... For her age she is in excellent condition and she is still cycling right on time, I never bred her until she was 8 years old as we were hog hunting about 99% of the time & I didn't need a tree dog, when my boys got old enough to start coon hunting I bred her & now I have 6 pups from her who are all nice tree dogs.......I wasn't as concerned about her age as I was the inbreeding to be honest, I know with the shape she's in, can have another litter.....
