I have been feeding blackgold for years but my best dog started running hot, losing hair and get dry spots. I switched him to "Taste of the Wild" 3 weeks ago. That has to be the BEST dog food I have seen in my life. He looks like I rubbed him down in baby oil lol and hasn't been running hot.

I started feeding pro plan this winter. Fed the sport when it was really cold. And have fed the savor all summer. My dogs are slick and fit and they don't seem to get hot like they did on other feeds.

Jason what blend you feeding of "taste of the wild" I don't need anything real high in protein, they're not getting out much and are fat enough now, lol.

Derrick I've seen that Purina "savor" blend but never looked into it, i feed pro plan sport in the cold months.

Bison & roasted venison and I love it. Don't remember the protein and fat %.

red flannel sells a active adult feed and another called adult mantince that is pretty good to fed in the summer pride also makes a feed that is decent for the off months

Two of the best red meats you can feed a dog.

I don't differentiate between summer and winter feeds but I do use a different feed for dogs that aren't being hunted hard. If I'm pushing one in the hunts, it's Diamond Extreme Athlete. If they aren't being hunted hard, it's Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice.

I feed caliber 24/20 year round , I just adjust the amounts of feed to maintain condition . work less eat less , work more eat more . I don't like switching a dog's feed around . when I find something that I like and works for me I stick to it .

I agree, and I have tried all the Diamond feeds, my dogs never look good on it, their hair dull and way too much clean up.
Purina all the way.

I have two on Diamond E.A. Right now, it's a good feed but it's too much for them right now, they're FAT!! They need a different diet until I can hunt hard again.

EA or the Naturals Chicken and Rice.

Feed the EA at half the rate if you aren't hunting or just want to put them on a diet. I am feeding the Chicken and Rice at about half rate right now based on the heat and lack of hunting. I will slip them some chicken scraps or a can of mackerel every week or so. Mine are slick and trim.

The Taste of Wild stuff is excellent feed. At this time, I don't see the advantage of paying that much $$$ for feed.

Stick with corn free feed for the warm months . It increases body temp and cuts the CO2 turn over rate .
I feed Victor 26/18 purple bag . Good feed at a reasonable price . But any quality grain free food will help with the over-heating and you don't need to cut back on the protein . I've also heard good things about the Taste of the Wild but it is pricey .

Retriever High Protien year round is what i feed but i usually have to cut it in half due to they are not as hungry and it goes to waste.I have tried feeding early morning and late at night but there would be feed still in the bowl!
