I need help I have a dog hiding from me when she's treed

I've hunted behind her for the last year, sometime in the last month she started hiding from me when she tree's. She's not quiting on the tree, when I walk up, she hides, when I walk away she comes back to the tree. I wouldn't care if I didn't have a nice 5 month old pup with her I'm afraid she's going to ruin. I'm about to take her out one night and leave her in the woods and find me another gyp. has anyone had this problem and can it be fixed. She was a nice tree dog, 4 to 6 a night and straight, but now she's a horrible liability.

Well Hugh, It sounds to me like you and she don't like each other too much. If you have come in to her and made an attempt to correct her too strongly, then she is now afraid of you. My dogs know they are my best friend and never shy away, but come to me so proud of what they have ccomplished. I usually have to correct them from coming to meet me, but they sure don't run and hide.

A dog must trust you, before it is not afraid of you. Sounds like you have lost her trust.

It's not I've never corrected her on a tree she's never treed trash I've wondered if a neighbor has caught her on a tree on a night I've left her out. But I'm encouraging..... hell I'm treating a black dog like a walker or red tick I feel like I've been out of this for too long

have a good friend hunt her

If its you maybe that will help?! Good luck! I had on e years ago theta would tree all night if needed but he got a spell where he didn't want to quit for the night and he would take off just before. I got my hands on him.... didn't matter how long he was treed. I got one dose of BUZZ and we understood each other , but I don't think that's what ypou need to do . again ,good luck!

DOES SHE BARK IN THE PEN OR ON THE CHAIN? IF SHE DOES DO YOU GO OUT AND MAKE HER SHUTUP?

SEEN DOGS GET CORRECTED IN THE PEN FOR BARKING AND DO WHAT YOUR DESCRIBING.

It sounds like some how some way it has to be you coming into the tree. I'd work her with a cage coon in a tree on a lead , And make sure she know just how proud you are of her and maybe even spend a little buddy time around the house with her. Hope it all works out for you and her she sounds like a nice dog. I had one at all of a sudden she decided that at two yrs. old she wanted to be gun shy worked with her and worked her. Finally I just stared tying her up if we were going to shoot. She got smart with the tying up and would tree till I was 50-100 feet from the tree and then hide , as we would walk out here she would come just so happy to see me

She has an interesting story and this is the little I know. She was found in Parkville, Mo. I think 4 years ago now just a big pup and the folks that found her looked for her owner couldn't find him so they gave her to a friend that used to have a few hounds but he lived in an apartment in Olathe Ks.

So she lived there for the next three years until we found her on craigslist.

In the last year she's slowly been learning she can be a dog again and how to be a dog. When we first got her no one was a stranger. One day the kids' dad provided a little drama now all strangers are to be chased back into their trucks at all costs lol.

Our house burned in February we moved about 15 mins away I came home every day to take care of animals every day she followed me to the end of the drive and met me there when I got home.

We moved back up here in April and set about cleaning up waiting on plans for rebuilding so I took a month to go back home and make major renovations on my parents house for a month.

Now I'm back a friend gave me a pup and they're thick as thieves. We just broke ground on the basement poured the footers and walls about to put in a little plumbing.

It's when we broke ground about that time she started hiding on tree. And yes she has been acting strangely around me maybe because I've been driving some of the equipment?

somebodys done something wrong to that dog if he was treeing and staying and now the last couple months hes leaveing when he sees a light.i dont see how driveing equipment around him will make him act all weird unless its hurting his ears.if he was mine and the next time he trees i would sneak in there with my light off and catch him, snap the lead to him and try to get him to treeing again.pet him and let him know treeing is good and thats what you want. some people say by petting a dog on a tree will make them slick treeing fools, from what ive seen most slick treeing dogs were bred that way and not from petting them.if hes bred to be a accurate coon dog petting aint going to hurt him,if hes bred to be accurate thats the most important thing in his life is to tree up a tree with a coon in it.

I'd try some bonding time with her away from the tree. She's been through a lot, as have you. I'm sure the fire was particularly traumatic. She must have been a house dog for awhile with her previous owner, from what you say, and she's probably been spending too much time alone in her kennel lately. You've been leaving her on her own for a good part of the day since you don't live where she does. Just throw her in the truck and take her with you for a couple hours a day. That may help.

Do you smoke when you hunt? Its possible she doesn't like smoke after the fire.

Carry bribes with you if necessary--pieces of hot dog or some other irresistable treat. I live in thin coon, and I have one dog that is very difficult to catch if he hasn't treed. I use freeze-dried lamb lungs to get him to come in.

Will she come back to chew on the coon if you shoot it out? Maybe if you shoot a few out, then take to shooting every other one, than every third one, etc., she'll be more inclined to hang around.

Another thing that works for a lot of dogs, especially males, but some females. is for you to pee. Most dogs can't resist investigating that, and will be caught easily while investigating. Praise her up when you catch her and tie her under the coon for a few minutes after you catch her.

Meanwhile, don't hunt her with the young dog until you cure the problem!

Please don't leave any dog in the woods. That just makes it someone else's problem. Either find it a home elsewhere or take care of the problem yourself humanely or bring it to the local shelter.

I get it I saw what's been happening this morning while I was backfilling one of the Mexican kids on the concrete crew was smacking her kennel with a shovel. I had one of his friends ask him if he wanted me to turn her loose. Talked to his boss he won't be back.
