Got A Question About The Garmin DC 50

is any one usin the new Dc 50s around VA WV NC? how are they pickin up an what kind of distance are you gettin out of them? do they pick up like the DC 30s ? is anyone havin any problems with them at all?

ALL OPINIONS ARE DEFINITELY WANTED GOOD OR BAD !!!!!

i live in the mtns of va.got 3 50s ive been using since last year.i bear hunt and im not even using the old beep beep collars anymore.the furhtest ive ever tracked a dog was 6.7 miles on a roof mount.but that wasnt continuous.avg about 2.5 to 3 miles before i start losing comm.but if the dogs cross a mountain usually have to go around to pick them up

DC 50s

I have been using them for 11 months. It's well worth the upgrade. They double the distance of the 30s and wipe the floor with 40s. Don't get me wrong they some of them have glitches, but they are very good. You have to figure the older your other collars get they'll start wearing down. The batteries also last longer. I run mine on 10 second update and they have the rescue mode when the battery drops to 25 percent. They last a little over 36 hours so that helps a lot and makes you feel a little more secure. I'm running in eastern mountains of WV.

We have one that we have been using for two months. Distance wise, it picks up a little better than some of our best DC30's. It also connects really quick. Seems to be holding up well. Battery life is as advertised.

50's vs. 40's

Anyone using them side by side in the mtns??

yes and the 50 is way better.better range and communication

Were usng the 50's and the 40's, the 50's do have better range and the battery life is great...however as said previously once they go over the top of the mtn youll still lose signal untill you either drive around the other side or hike to the top. Overall i like the 50's better.

I've got four 50's and kept a 40 for a spare. The 50's pick up quicker and keep signal better. Even in the box when the older collars lose satellite the 50's keep signal. They are more accurate with the location of the dog. I've tracked dogs at 4 to 5 miles side by side with dogs wearing 40's that never show on the garmin. You may have communication with the 40's but bad satellite signal won't give accurate location. I've tracked dogs several times at 9 miles or more crossings mountain tops with external antenna. I hunt east tennessee and western north Carolina. The farthest I have ever tracked a 50 collar is far and beyond what anybody would ever believe if they didn't see it first hand.
