bird dog crosses?
Wondering how they work on big game I've seen were several use them on deer crossed with running hounds. Do they have a place on bear or coyote is one breed if bird dog better than the other?

Their is a guy in AZ. That has a line that is any where from a 1/4 - 1/2 German Shorthair Pointer that are top Lion dogs. Also seen English Pointer mixed in that are top dogs

How do they hunt compared to an all hound dog? What did the bird dog add to them?

They hunt lion on the run like a good pointer burns up a field, head up using their winding ability like a cur on the run. Speed on track and endurance. And did I say speed

?, If the hounds you are hunting are so poor that you feel the need to add in a bird dog, Why not just get a better hound? Also if it works so good, why doesn't everyone do it?

All my life I wanted to be somebody, now I realize I should have been more specific. I carry a gun because I am too young to die and too old to take an asswhoopin.
Right now I'm trying to work with what I've got I've coon bred blueticks trying to run coyote and one running stock hound I've seen several bird dog crossed with running hound being used on deer on our coast as we can't dog deer in the western part of the state I'm considering breeding one of my blueticks to a running hound/bird dog cross if I decide to breed. I feel pretty sure what I have will be able to satisfy me or I wouldn't be feeding them. but there's always room for improvement my question was a general question about the benefits of the cross as I've seen several
If there was one master line or breed of hound we'd all be running them I don't have or see a problem with what I have now
Kenneth
Clavy river curs thanks for your input

Kenneth, I think that would be a hell of a cross ! I've crossed up Walker x Cur with a little July, We got 8 generations proven on bear, lion, bobcat and grey fox. Keep me in the loop if you do make the cross sure would like to hear how it works out.

Go to some of the hog hunting sites. German shorthairs have a ton of grit. Know to hunt on the run with speed. Great nose , feet. A good GSP will add a lot to any dog.

My German Short Hair is a female. I also have Blue dogs myself and I gotta say she is the perfect pup trainer. She has no fear of a bear but is also twice as smart.
She's extremely intelligent. She is our house dog my wife got and I noticed when she was about 7 months old she couldn't stand it when a bear got even close to the house. She put her first bear in a tree at 8 months old!
