There must be 3 or 4 threads on here about how rules need to be changed. Everything from how long to hunt yo how many wins for a title. I am pretty new to the sport but in general I am not really seeing the need for any of these major changes. Maybe I am in the minority but let's just go hunt and have a good time.

There is no need to even think about a rule change until 2017 anyway. Nothing is going to change but maybe a policy before then.

All this talk about the best dog not winning. First dog to tree gets 125. Any dog that "covers" that dog or "me too dog" gets at least 50 points less. I have never been on a hunt that the dog who gets first tree most of the time loses.

Keep hunting I've seen it over an over cover dogs are always babble mouth strike dogs. If the dog treeing the coon is a 3rd or 4th strike dog its all over.

Well, that about sums it up....I am with ya. I don't know if any rule is in serious need of changing. Your last sentence in the first post really hit the nail on the head. "Lets just go hunt and have a good time." Some of the best times coon hunting I had was on a competition hunt...we still talk about a few nights back in 1985. Looking back, we were trying to have a good time so we did.

A good me to dog will follow the dog thats treeing the coon! Then when a dog locates they tree off it and theres is there right behind the one that treed it! A good handler with a me to dog will steal 1st tree

I think.

A dog should have to pass a hunt test (show they can tree their own coon) before they can even compete for a title. That would get rid of half the registered dogs, but in return drop entries so we all know that wouldn't be considered.

Here is the thing. Everyone is saying the best dog isn't always winning. In every sport you can say the best team doesn't always win. Matter of fact a lot of sports makes rules so that it makes it harder for the best team to win aka NASCAR. The fact is first tree is going to win.

My opinon is there are 2 other registries to hunt if you dont like the UKC rules. I personally like the UKC rules so Ill keep hunting them

When kc's quit trying to improve and listen to all.... well thats just not good business.A few improvements on a good thing never hurt nobody. Half tg e problem is people dont know the rules and dont know what a cooning is. That would fix alot.

I agree with the improving hunts with good ideas. But to change rules because certain dogs are winning or losing isn't good business. If the best dog won every time you would probably only have one or two dogs show up at a hunt. I have hunted with one of these babling dogs. He got first strike every time. But I got first tree and I even made a mistake or two and we ended up tying but I won because I had most tree points. I am all for good change. But let's not change because we feel the better dog isn't winning.

all you guys need to do is get you a 1st and 1st type dog then you do not have to worry about what everyone elese is hunting.
if you atre getting beet by a me to dog it is your owen fault.

The rules are good for the most part, minor changes here and there may be needed. But honest and non partial nonhunting judges would fix a lot of the dishonesty going on. But I give a lot of koodos to our clubs around my area, we have a lot of good honest hunters and judges. Its a real pleasure to hunt with everyone!

It cant get much easier. The last 5 or 6 hunts Ive been to has had 1-3 open cast max. 5 open wins would weed out a bunch of the Nitechs whou cannot tree thier own coon.

Not at all.Ive seen plenty if honest quick strike dogs that put a coon on the end of it.just not usually at the hunts.A honest hound only strikes on coon tracks.Not dog tracks,deer tracks,squirrel tracks or possum tracks.You have hunted long enough to know the differance.

you are right but now adays people think they are.

Jackson yes i have and i will not put a dog in the hunts that i can not take 95% of the first stricks with and 95% of the first trees with. all the dogs listed under my name was all 1st and 1st type dogs and they all did it onest.
