five casts wins = ntch win
I have been thanking about this especially at the local club where you might have two or three night champ. casts with only one winner and the other two cast winners are out of luck. so here is my thoughts on this:
why can't ukc make a ruling where if you win your cast it is counted towards a night champion win. this is how it would work.
5 casts wins = 1 ntch win
make a section on the paper work to help keep track of cast winners. But your cast win does count on performance points only a actual win does.
let's hear your thoughts on this subject.

If they change it to just cast wins I think it should be ten cast wins. Most small local clubs usually just have one cast of nt ch's anyway.

how is requiring 5 NITECH wins any different than requiring at least one 1st place? either way you have to beat every other dog that went out there... leave it the way it is, its going to be very hard to keep track of how many cast wins a dog has.
Let me clarify, I understand HOW it's different, but I don't think what your suggesting is a better way, maybe you should guide if you want to make sure you have good spots to go to... just sayin

what you are suggesting is what AKC does... every 5 plus point cast win earns you a title.. nite champion then grand night and then supreme grand for a total of 15 plus point cast wins.. just in case you didn't know

I may have misunderstood his meaning but my "take" on it was that it takes 5 cast wins to earn 1 nite champion win. Which means that under the current qualifications, you would need 25 cast wins to move up to Gr. Nite. This would certainly keep dogs hunting the events longer but I think it may be a bit excessive.
I love the idea personally.
no everyone is misunderstanding what i have wrote. you still only need five first place wins to become a grandnite. but your cast wins would add up also to help you get there. like me i have a little over 15 cast wins on a nite champ. and no wins towards grandnite. this would help you get there yea this would take you a little longer but it would help with all the money you spend to get there. and hobo that may be only one night champion cast in VA but around here there is general more night champions then reg. dogs. we usually have 3 to 4 nt. ch. casts. here i will break it down for you so everybody will understand:
you have:
15 cast wins = 3 night champ. wins
2 first place = 2 wins

Any changes at all would be a slap in the face to every dog that has ever been titled !L and especially when 15 -20 years ago there would be 50-70 dogs at every local hunt and you hunted 3 hours with a non hunting judge!!!! Boys if you can't title a dog in Ukc now that should tell you 2 things one is the dog is either to young or not ready to be in the hunts and two please don't breed them cause that's the reasons we have all these counterfeits out here now!!!!!jmo

I think that's a good ideal Shawn. All you can do is win your cast.If your cast has 4 dogs and the other has 2 then your screwed. They don't have to split as much points and rack up a score quicker. True about them REDBONES!I was surprised they had so many Grntch when there special issue came out.
quote:Im sure thats what they said when hunts went from 3 to 2 hrs. I wasn't around but Im guessing. With 5 cast wins. It would require more hunts for a lot of decent dogs.

Once took me 17 hunts to grand one out. Heres an idea. :
Win 5 hunts or 10 cast = Nitech
Win 5 hunts or 10 cast =Grn.nite

I think we need to leave it alone. I'm hunting the only GRNTCH I ever got to finish out in UKC, it was easy enough to finish him out in UKC because he was the kind of dog that was going to win. I quit hunting a NTCH female when she got 15 or 16 cast wins and could only get one win toward GRNT, bottom line, just bad luck or not enough dog. Don't get me wrong, I liked her a lot but she just didn't have what it took to get the job finished and I finally had to admit that to myself and move on. Instead of trying to make it easier, just get a better dog. Worked for me.

its not about getting a better dog when you score 650 and get bet by 25pts and it has happened more than once. when i finished my george dog out i won four straight ntch casts and to get that 5th win on it took 20 more casts to get him finished and out of that 20 i won over half and was beat on several of those hunts by 25 pts. and its not about making it easier it is about rewarding those that put the time and effort into that dog that is a consistent cast winner. at least when i hunt the other kc's and get a cast win i atleast win something in return.

Lot of performance points
I think that's a good idea. You could even make it three cast wins. If you win your cast three times your dog deserves a win. Jmo

I remember a dog I hunted in the 90s who won all most every cast he was entered in. The "1st" always eluded him though........tons of 2nds and a few scores high enough for a 1st but missed deadlines ect ect. He died an open registered dog, but it never subtracted from my opinion of him.
Another a few years ago who was pretty dang consistent at winning ntch casts though was notorious for missing deadlines or getting beat by a little by another ntch cast for the win .....then all at once 3 ntch wins in 8 days and went on to win enough strait I could have finished him twice by the time his world hunt was over. My opinion of him didn't change a bit from start to finish though.
I personaly could care less what the title requirements are, titles were never the reason I entered a hunt. It was to see what was going on in everyone elses breeding program

I don't think there should be any changes. Ive got a female here that got her first 3 wins easy. Now shes been in 15-20 hunts and has probably 10 cast wins with no nite ch win. There were several wins with 500-700 pts but get back to the club and somebody beats me by 25. Its just bad luck and itll turn someday. Ill keep putting her in the hunts until I have something else to put in the hunts. I know shes the caliber of dog to make it and she deserves it but only time will tell.

15-20 cast wins and no ntch wins maybe the dog shouldn't be a grand nite. I don't think we need to cheapen up the titles.

From what I am reading.. WOW... Everyone says what is wrong with the this breed and that breed. Why can't This breed and that breed win the World hunt.. Then something like this comes up. Want to win the world hunt? People say the numbers game to win a world hunt. But beat the 3 dogs you are cast with and advance..... But a small time hunt.. gotta be high scoring Nite ch. Hmmmmm
I would be greatly in favor of someone winning 10 casts to make it. The dog did his job.. He beat what he was drawn with. Can't ask anymore of it. Someone said you need a first to make Nite Ch.. Yessir you do.. But all the rest of the time.. win your cast with Plus points and you gain points toward that title.. Are you cheapening it? How could you? You are beating 3 other Nite Champions...You are advancing... Why should the results be any different from a big hunt or a small one?
I do believe a dog should have an HTX title before the Gr Nite Ch title is awarded.. The top 20 of the world hunt has to hunt alone.. for an hour.. tree one on the outside to advance... So should a Nite Ch.
A lot of dogs years ago did have more competition.. but Now? There is 10 times as many coon..Farmers complaining about so many... Feeder buckets. I have seen scores of 1,800 plus at a big hunt.. for 2 hours? a coon every 15 minutes.. struck, treed, seen and time out.. Ever see that 30 years ago?
Times have changed.. I have been at this for 44 years now. Maybe it's time to change and give everyone a fair chance to win.. not just the chosen few with great spots, buckets, and a decent dog... JMO
