Dog Acting Weird After Hunt?
I went to a htx hunt last night and while my hound was around 1000+ yards out i heard one solo bark, then he ran and i mean flat out booked it, right back down the same track he left on, right back to me. when he got back to me he was freaked out and i mean freaked out. i leashed him and when i would walk with him in front of me he would turn around and bite my boot, and when i knocked over a corn stalk he would jump in the air and in mid air turn around and blindly snap and bite in the air. he was so freaked like something was following him, i cut him loose and he would just lay down and not hunt. when i would walk past him he would get up and go in front, but as soon as i would make a noise he would do the same thing. he kept looking behind him paranoid of something. he wouldn't hunt even in a new spot, still acting the same way. when i got home i couldn't get him out of the dog box, he actually bit me and drew blood. i left him in there for the night and this morning he is still all goofy and bent out of shape. has anyone ever had a dog do this? i was told there is no electric fence and i would have thought he would have squealed if he got fried. he has one mark on his head but that could be from a stick or something from the first drop. the dog pretty much is scratch free. any ideas or similar stories would be great. thank you
sounds like he seen something that scared the hunt out of him!!! BIG FOOT maybe!! lol, could have been a ole gyp coyote. had this happen in a cast i was in about 2 months ago. it put one dog in the box! but it hunted fine after we went some were else. but something scared that dog to death!!!

i dont think coyote, he trees in the center of them on a nightly basis, ive even see yotes 50 yards from the tree and they dont bother him. ive had them actually open and track him like a hound tracks a coon, and treed on a yote den 10 feet away. he is has no fear of a yote. we are in yote heaven around here. if i had a yote scared dog he wouldn't be able to hunt here. i was thinking like a bear, mt lion, an electric fence, maybe a wolf, i dont know, yotes are not enough to make this dog freak.....
i dont know what it could be!! i dont know nothin about a bear or mountain lion or a wolf!!! but id say if it was one of the 3 he wouldnt be intact!! probably be missing a ear or leg or both. this was a big foot!! you should have done some howls and wood knocks!! lmao

i tried to get my beaf jerky out but he wouldnt come in
sounds crazy
I've heard some horror stories about meth labs & dogs getting a whiff of some of that crap.
Maybe a nest of bees?
I've never experienced something like you are talking about. I hope your dog comes out of it.

ive seen bees on a dog before, he acted a lot like he was getting stung on the rear for how snappy he was while turning around. i didnt see any visual bees on him or stings, but it could very well be something like that....thats a great idea or possibility
coyotes
Me and a buddy went out other night and coyots got into our dogs mine barked and came running back and his yelped some and ran other way when we got his female she acted the same as you said scared to death like to never got her back to truck caz every noise while walking she would freak out and when got her home in more light had blood on front leg and a hole ripped in one back leg. He said it took 2 days before she would even come out of dog house. But he says she is back to normal in pen now but waiting for the wound to heal on her leg before taking her out.

i can tell you one thing for sure, maker is no fighter, he sounds just like your buddies female, maybe it was a yote after all!!! see these real life experiences from other ppl make me feel a whole lot better bout whats out there. i can tell you if it was my other male dog, $-h-i-t would have hit the fan, he woulda stood toe and toe with a yote and took care of business. im glad maker isnt a fighter
you know maker has been breeding this female at my house and he bred her all week long, i wonder now if a alpha male didnt come in??
Or a whole pack running together. One yote maybe 2 not so bad you put3 or more together a dog is in trouble and there are plenty of packs around here of 3 or more. Ive seen up to 8 running together here while deer hunting but only 7 made it through the woods. Would have shot more than 1 but had a muzzle loader. Might have been protecting pups in the area too. At leas he didnt get tore up. Good luck.

jesse, I'm pretty sure he got ran off by a yette. the colkerville mines are full of them. Really it sounds like he ran into a ground nest of bumble bees. I had a dog do it once and he acted just like that.. them stingers will stay in there skin and keep stinging for awhile.

Could also be that he tweaked something like his back. Might be a nerve being pinched. Our little house dog acted that way one evening. Freaked out & scared to death. Best the vet could figure she jumped off the couch & landed wrong. Vet gave her something to relieve the pain & kept her resting in a kennel for a day & she came out of it.
Or like others suggested, ground bees. Seen dogs act the same way.
