How much feed for whole Kennel?

Everyday when I scoop out 16 cups of food to feed my 4 hounds I wonder? How many cups per day does it take to feed all your hounds?

Cup??

What kinda "cup" Are you talking about?? A 1 cup dry measuring cup??

I had a buddy that called a "cup" - A red solo cup LOL!!

Where it says 4 cups per dog for a large dog on the bag - That is 4 dry measuring cups of food per dog per day. That's what I feed mine and they stay healthy. I actually took a 2 liter bottle and put 4 cups in it after cutting off the top, then took scissors and cut it down to where it will only hold that much!!

My dogs get one plaits cup of food a day 16ozcup and that's it actually need to cut them back a little since its getting hot !!! That is dea and they are in great shape and have one crap a day if they don't hunt the night before if they hunt then none !! You may pay more for good food but you feed a lot less and it's better for the dogs

Matt, the only accurate way to do it is to go by weight. Different dog foods have different densities. Just because you use a 16 ounce measuring cup does not mean 16 ounces are actually going into it. Some dog foods may be very large kibble with a lot of air in them (low density). What fills up a 16 ounce measuring cup may only weigh 8 ounces. The exact opposite may be true as well. You may be able to get 24 ounces of food into a 16 ounce measuring cup of a dog food with high density. Bottom line, if you weigh it, you know exactly how much you are using.

LoL.My dogs couldn't be any healthier.I just use a measuring cup right outta the kitchen. So Vic your saying I need to fill that measuring cup level and weigh it?A measuring cup of my feed weighs 5 ounces. It just seems like a lot of feed to feed all my dogs.Maybe I just have to many hounds...lol

You got it Matt! Once you know the weight, you can check what your actually feeding against the recommended portion listed on the bag. Hopefully the amount your're feeding is equal to or slightly less than recommended amount .

You hear a lot of folks complain when discussing dog food & switching brands. The dog isn't doing as good, & they complain about how they are feeding the exact same amount of the new feed because they are using the same amount of scoops from the same cup/can they used for the old dog food. In actuality, they could be overfeeding or underfeeding by a substantial margin & be totally unaware of it because of the different density of the food.

To me every dog is different just like people some dogs hold their weight better than others, dogs are different sizes and metabolize food differantly.if u watch a dog for a wk or so u should be able to tell how much each needs.each of my dogs gets different amounts and depending on the time of the yr.
