Big Fish.........Small Pond

Coonhunting is relatively a small pond in comparison to other hunting sports, and I am afraid it is getting smaller for several different reasons. I don't understand why it is so important for some to be a "Big Fish" in such a "Small Pond." There is no room for jealousy in the sport of Coonhunting, and no need for it. Instead of tearing someone down, what would be wrong with helping one another and building them up? Not one of us can claim originality to the dogs we hunt or breed. We can make crosses that work, and even though a person, through time and extensive line breeding, can create their own line of hounds, all of us are building on a foundation someone else laid.

If we are going to make coonhunting a "Bigger Pond" we will have to do it as small fish, working together. I have determined that if anyone wants to criticize me, it is going to be one-sided.

Take care......Good hunting......Wishing for you the very best.......Hoping all of your "Coonhunting Dreams" come true.

This is well said. A lot of what is wrong with nite hunts IMO is that instead of being a tool used to better the breeds you hunt and being for the dogs, egos get in the way and it becomes more about the win. Now I know its compeition and winning is the objective, but at what cost?

that's always been my problem with the whole shootin match.......the win at all costs mind set instead of accualy making and using rules to insure the most talented dog gets the credit that's due......ive seen so many "handler titles" over the years it makes me sick, and whats worse is there PROUD of it :/

I always said if I had to cheat or twist the rules in my favor to win,,,,,,,,,,im getting a better freakin dog :/ first. any titles I made were achieved not BECAUSE of me but usualy more like IN SPITE of me lol........

I have never, and will never, accept a win on my dog it doesn't truly deserve. then again the titles never realy ment as much to me as having talent on the snap end of the leash anyway.

sad thing is Craig has it right in that outside our tiny little "coonhunter society" none of it means a dang thing anyway.

i would just caution at pointing fingers, cause you know what they say about how many are pointing back. the original post was kinda of all over the place and not really sure if it was in general or directed at someone directly, so alittle diffucult to get what it is really hitting at. but where one mind find fault in percieved jealously, others might find fault in prcieved self promotion, and continous need for recognition and praise and the validation from others, especially behind the guise of humility.

I for one can't stand it when people use the name of a well know dog for there dog when it's not related. I feel it is very disrepectful to the people who worked there hide off to make a name for there dog. Thats just LAZY.

Rance, I'm humble and proud of it. Thinking about writing a book on humility and putting my picture on the first thirty pages. Of course, I'm joking. I am nothing, and no one knows that better than I do.
I am not seeking recognition or confirmation from anyone. I am honest, and say what I think is right. If you knew me, you would know that. I also know jealousy does more damage than good. The only thing I've been successful at is enjoying the dogs, friends, and the outdoors. I'm not a breeder, and do not consider myself to be a good hunter. No doubt, there are those who need recognition and confirmation, and praise, just as you described, and that's what causes jealousy among hunters and breeders. I like hounds, and coonhunting, but my life is a lot, lot bigger than hounds and hunting. I appreciate your response, and see that you are very intelligent, analytical, and perceptive.
Wishing for you the best, and hope to meet you one day.
