When was the last time ...
you hunted with an honest to goodness coon treeing dog ? Now I ain't talkin about a dog that trees 10 trees and has 5 or 6 coon or a dog that has to get out of pocket and you spend half the night getting to um . I'm talkin about a dog you can turn loose and consistently kill a coon to them when they tree . ( 90% or better ) A dog that trees em as they come to em . Dogs name , breed , how are they bred ?
Nitech PR Shivers's Rush Creek Shelly

I owned him from 2005 to 2012 and all the years I hunted him we didn't kill a coon a handful of times. He was the most accurate dog I've seen and owned. When he treed he would usually two or three coons in a tree almost everytime it was like he herded them up a tree

I hunt with one pretty often. She belongs to some close friends of mine. Dogs name CH GRNTCH Dories Stylish Ready, she's a 7 year old TW female. Ready is Hickory Nut Harry x Night Heat Abby on top, and Neosho River Razor on bottom. She is top notch, as honest as they come. When she strikes a track, you can load the gun and start walking. She is semi-retired now. She has probably had over 40 pups started with her. I use her now as a check dog for the young dogs that I take in to train. If she doesn't like a track, you can guarantee it isn't a coon.
Honestly about 25 years ago

Small walker male out of Harold brummers stock he was awesome
Ive walked many miles with a dog like you describe bout every week named Bodacious Blue.Hes a English male outta Limited Edition X MainStreet female.Seen him tree 100's of coon in all seasons. He trees coons as they come and don't pass many up.He ant perfect but is as accurate as I've ever seen.He made 5 trees Lastnight and had 5 singles by midnight.
many times!
I hunted with one a few months ago..the guy only wanted 600$ for the dog, but it had "an off night" the moon was to bright.. and the coons must of been in the dens.
Then I had one on trial before this last kill season.. but "the land is much different here than in KY, and the dog isn't used to the flat land and patch woods."
both dogs were supposedly 80%-90% accurate.. just not when I was in the woods with them! lol

dog name susie
Susie was a sure NUFF COONDOG!!! alotta people round here didn't like the dog or the guy that owned her but I think jealousy had a lot to do with it tho. shed tree em 100 yards from the truck but would go as far as she needed to. she had a knack for findin coon it was unreal the things she did on some nights. In the winter time coons would be laid up round here and shed tree em every night consistently. she wont no fancy dog but she treed coon and that's all she thought about. an old timer owned her and he knocked every coon he treed out to her I hunted with her for 3 kill seasons in a row and only ever seen her tree one possum never treed slick or cam up short and she was 11 years old the first time I ever seen her go. she died last year I think sure woulda like to had a pup out of her. never was hunted in a nite hunt but she coulda won em with ease just an all around good dog best I ever walked behind in the woods. oh yea she was a walker dog too.

accurate dogs
From the late 90's to about 05 there was 5 stud dogs being advertised in the magazines that were 90 to 95% accurate. I owned all of them before they were advertized. None of them were that accurate here. Two were less than 50%. I still see people post on here about these dogs and wish they could get some of that blood back. With that being said, the dog I hunt now is about 75% year round. I went to a friends house in Ohio and hunted 7 nights straight. We made 37 trees with this dog being hunted alone. He made 35 with coons seen, one den, and one tree full of vines that we couldnt see. All these tracks were hot to medium . Down here you dont strike but about 1 or 2 tracks like that a week. Most are old feed tracks that a dog has to really struggle to tree. I guess them dogs could have been that accurate where they were lots of coons....
Now let me qualify myself before I state this. I live in some wonderful coonhunting ground. Lots of coon, easy hunting, and I am not a 6 night a week hunter. That being said if it was just you and me and this dog we could go out about any night of the week that wasn't horrible weather and tree coon. Her mouth is poor, but she goes hunting herself with no BS, takes the tracks as she comes to them, trees coon and really likes to have them. We may get a den if things are slow, if coon are moving she will eat it up. Most of the time she likes to have a coon.
She is a plott female. I got her as a pup in 2007. She is the last decent one I have had.

all thru season i hunted with brian downing and is tap dog id say every bit of 90% then i pulled my pup away and hunted with ol rudy taps dady and he wont miss hes not mine not bias! singled my pup out two weeks ago hes treed twelve coons caught one and one den no misses so i guess id say last night!!
I've seen some decent dog work but I have not hunted with a dog like you describe since switching to registered dogs in the early 90s. My dad had a grade plott dog back in the day that was just as you describe but we only hunted for fur for 2-3 months out of the year.
My dad has a young walker male now that he just started hunting that sounds like the same type but it is much too soon to say for sure. We all know hounds can change due to several variables as well. I have owned a couple that I thought were good about treeing coons in the pocket so I fell in love with them but over time eventually they changed into average hounds.

to all you fellows with the fine dogs, i hope you have them well secured. there's a lot of folks that will go through a lot of trouble to get a good dog. if i wasn't a christain i'd be asking for your address. just kidding, i'm too old to hunt a good coon dog.

sauk talking
rudys name is splitters rude awakening out of big timber splitter brians had this line of dogs for probly 15yrs i still remember i had only met him a few times and what he said would have upset most "when ur tired of that junk give me a call ill set ya up" so i took him up on it! been huntin his line for 4yrs wont switch back! id say if anyone wants an accurate move a track driftin type dog hes got the dog that produces that! i asked him why he never ran an ad on the old man he said easier to win when i dont have to hunt against my own dog just ask doug ohme hes goyt one outa him! won the illinois state race and bear creek classic said he walked to 14 coons and 1 den in 15 trees little better than 90% id say
Not all super accurate dogs are worth bragging about.I got a young walker dog that won't tree unless she has the meat.Shes prolly made close to 50 trees by herself.Only one tree was slick. She will tree a few possums which I hate worse than a slick tree. She passes up too many cold tracks and layups. Here in southern Ohio if you want to a serious coondog they have to be able to run a cold track and tree layups on a nightly basis.Jmo
