Hardest game
Bobcats are not that hard to tree in Maine, but they are hard to locate. A real good cat hound makes it look easy. I think the hardest thing to tree is a bear that just doesn't want to go up...It takes smart hounds with lots of grit working together to get it done...We don't have Wolverine here, but I bet you'ld have your hands full If you tried to tree one!
I voted for bobcat, not that they are hard to tree for me but it's hard for me to keep them in the tree lol

i will finish the game.
Id have to say Bobcats..BUT...Bears only will climb if they choose too. and the best dogs in the world wont convince him if he dont want to, they will just get body damage...With cats, getting the track lifted is generally the chore that the lesser houndsmen struggles with....Both have their days on this subject eqaully....I voted bobcats, due to the conditions ya deal with...ice,snow,wind,ect......

hardest game to tree
I agree 50 of the best hounds in the word cant make a bear tree if he don't want to it is always his choice
Hardest game to tree
I'm sticking with bears..The man's question was hardest to tree not hardest to jump..I do agree that jumping cats can be tough under tough condions, but one great cathound can do it with ease...I don't have her now, but "Rosie" A Bill Wickham "Hell Bender 2" pup treed on caught 17 bobcats in a row without a miss..The 18th cat I cut her off at dark....Duane Smith did catch over 40 bears without a miss with his "Tree-lok Bob", but I don't think he did it alone...Paul
Bears or bobcats
I've treed several thousands bears an I can only remember 2 that wouldn't climb in the last 4 or 5 years. I had one female that treed between four an five hundred alone. I can only remember ever Treeing one bobcat an that was while rabbit Huntin with a pack of beagles. It jumped several times before finally stayin in the last tree. Treeing bears isn't hard but there are some stubborn ones. Hardest thing about a bobcat is finding a track.
I haven't run many cats but what ones I have were incredibly hard to catch here on the flat thick lowlands of eastern nc. Now on that note bear are generally easy to tree but now you take a bear that is determined to just run and I think it will top all things that you can tree. Cats don't have the lungs like a bear. I recently run a bear this past week that had some pressure being applied pretty tight and he ran for over 3 hours round and round and round. So depending on the bears mood I could make a serious case for certain bears being able to be harder to tree than anything else lol

Question to all you cat hunters . Is mountain lion that easy to tree ? What's the hard part the trailing ? Once there jumped there easy ? Always wanted to know . What's your percent you catch one compared to bear everytime you turn on one

Mountain Lion hunting temperature between 0 and 30 with a foot of snow an overnight track should be a 100% success rate. Any change from those conditions affect your success. Anybody hunting in perfect conditions with decent cat dogs should have close to 100% success rate. My success rate is not 100%. I have a job so I hunt whenever I have time to hunt no matter what the weather. I have cold trailed lions up to 16 miles before jumping them in less than ideal conditions those 16 miles can cover a variety of conditions than can screw up your hunt. I have never cold trailed a bear even a 1/4 of that distance before jumping it. So comparing cat hunting success rates and bear hunting success rates is not a fair comparison.
My ranking of hardest to tree.
1.Wolverine
2.Lynx
3.Bear
4.Bobcat
5.Lion
Hardest game to tree
You got it right. That's just the way I'ld put them.. I'm no lion hunter, but in the 80s I went to Utah hunting lions. Jumping the cat was the hardest thing to do, but we did get the best cat dog in the pack killed when he fell 200 off a cliff. Loss most lions before getting jumped because lions are 4 wheel drive, hounds only 2 wheel drive..But I loved the west..Lots of game out there, great country..I've got to go back!!!
your terrain , abundance of game species you target , the quality of your hounds . the number of hounds you run , the houndsmans knowledge of the game species and hounds, knowing your terrain .the hunting pressure on the game animals ,even the laws and how you can pursue and for how long change game animals .bear are easier to catch in the early training season here with out of shape dogs to boot..by the time the hound season is in full swing those bears have adapted .your dogs are in better shape by then which helps alot then the bears start to fatten up making them a little heavier on their feet towards the end of the season. a bobcat that runs to hole and stays close to holes .and beelines for it everytime a hound opens is probably the hardest to tree imo . a silent traildog with lots of speed would be about the only way to tree a bobcat of that type.during hibernation a bear would surely be hard to find and tree.i would personnally find it easier to find a good beardog to tree bears with than a catdog to tree bobcats with. so based on that alone makes bobcats harder to tree.you can buy a decent beardog from time to time ,but try buying a guys prize cathound and i bet you will get some funny looks. this subject really is alot like comparing baseball to football . to different games with key players for success.
Whitetail deer without a doubt !!! Been runnin em for years ,,,, still ain't treed one !!!
