alpha during field trial?

Is it legal to put a Garmin alpha on a hound during a field trial? I can't see any way it could give the handler an advantage, except after the field trial is over...
I have a hound that is inclined to look for his own coon during a field trial, and it sure would be nice to find him quickly so the next cast can head out. The radio collar keeps him from getting lost, but that shocker and the compass would allow me to catch him a lot faster...

Really, you dont see how hitting the tone button could effect another dog in that heat?

You can use it during timeout and after the hunt is over. Hand held must stay in the truck during hunt time

I didn't think you could shock a dog during time out.

This is a field trial., not a hunt.
What I'd like to be able to do is put the collar on the dog and only use the receiver after he goes AWOL.
If I need to put the hand held in the clubhouse or hand it to the tree judge, that would work. Just want to get my dog back without holding everyone else up for an hour.
Right now, I use the radio collar. It works, but not as fast as the GPS.
I suppose one could train a hound to bark treed when toned, but I don't need to be holding the controls, and I wouldn't want to ruin my dog by training him to bark treed on command!

The Astro320 is legal to hold & watch during a ft. I don't know if the Alpha has been approved but at a ft you're usually just a few steps from your car or truck so it shouldn't be much of an issue to just get it when needed .
The TT collar is legal in the hunts if you leave the Handheld in the truck so should be the same for ft just the truck is usually a lot closer for a ft .

Look in your rule book.
These are events where the club lays down a scent trail with a caged coon [or fake coon] at the end. Casts of four dogs compete to get Line (first dog to get close)and tree (barks within circle around tree the caged coon is hung on) for titles. There are FCH GRFCH titles for the hounds.

Emily,

How you get a handle on your strayed hound in a Field Trial, after the heat is officially run and over with, is your business. Otherwise, the handheld of any controlling device should not be carried by the handler during any heat, semi or final.

Good Point Allen

After it is fine but not carrying during. That would be a unfair point if you could shock or tone your dog during.

Thank you Allen for making that point clear, Jeff A.
