Hebron, WI club needs some help.
As most in WI are aware, the Hebron club has been hosting events since the 1940s. Over the years, it's seen changes in our sport, in leadership, and in the ways of the times. I grew up at this club, and spent many years as an officer, and I know many others can say the same. Home of the WI State Championship, the very popular Family Fun Day, the beginning of the Ringtails Youth Group, and so much more. Now, it needs some help.
I received an alarming newsletter from the club calling a meeting to determine the future of the club. Entries and interest are down and they are considering closing it down.
I know all clubs suffer the same, and entry numbers rise and fall for a variety of reasons. However, the Milton club, less than 20 miles away, is still going pretty strong. So, I don't think we can blame anything but ourselves. This club needs leadership and participation. Just 5 years ago, we had 75 members, money in the bank, growing entry numbers, and a whole herd of kids entering every event they could find a dog for. I've got to believe we can bring it back, but I'm personally overcommitted with obligations to other events and organizations. Is anyone else interested is stepping up?
There will be a meeting on April 27th at 4:00pm. If you have an interest in this club, please attend to either volunteer or say your sad goodbyes.
sorry to here that Erika i hope they find a way to keep the club going

I'm too far away to be active but an idea you could charge $5 a dog at family fun day don't think it would deter anyone and with the number of participants you could make up some ground
I live a 1.20 min away and ever time I have hunted out of that club but twice I had had to guide so that's one reason I don't hunt out of there
Understandably, Steve. The club needs to reestablish its list of guides too...
"Had to guide"? or was "asked" to guide?

Once these Clubs shutdown.
They rarely start up again, my advice is do some fund raisers, figure out what is wrong sound like you have some ideas already. Call up past members and explain and see what they think.
Best of luck to you. Jeff Ashmore
I would say jay when there was nobody else there to say they could guide I think that means I had to don't get me wrong have no problem doing it but it becomes a long nite when I dive 2hrs to work and 2 hrs home each day I not saying theres anything wrong with the club but some of the other ciub member need to step up
I aint been there for a couple years but it sounds like most of the older members that cared about comp hunting either quit or cant hunt anymore. and urban sprawl I am sure aint helping either.

Most when they can't hunt, they are done. But they can often help out when the keeping the club together counts at least for a short time. Having hunts on friday is hard for people to often come due to work.
Good Luck Jeff
Every club goes thru cycles of ups & downs. I see nothing wrong with clubs really scaling back the number of events they old. Most clubs beginning slipping when burnout sets in & their isn't the new blood to fill the void. Hold maybe 1 UKC event a year and some other events where the club has the strongest interest (I.e. buddy hunts, other kc events, fur hunts, family picnics, & youth events). Hopefully in a few years the interest in active club participation can increase the need for more events. IMO, less is always more.
I always enjoyed my visits to Hebron. Other than the horrendous smell from the "indoor" outhouses, I really enjoyed each time I was there. I wish them the best of luck. If that club would close down completely it would be a tragedy to the history of the sport.
