Tree jacking

Need help have a 2 yr old that started jacking last fall. Before that he was a stylish tree dog belly rubbing hug the tree type. He has not been hunted with any jackers so it was not anything he learned. Question is how do I break him from this. I don't want to cause any problems on a hunt. Thanks for your time and advice.

Take u a hammer and nail and tack your lead strap to the bottom of the tree so he can't jump do it three or 4 times it should help I have had luck in the past.

Thanks will try anything at this point. I tried tying him to a close tree, also tried jerking him back when he jumped. This also seems to be worse when he is with another dog.

I don't know how to fix it but I do believe that it wont cause problems, it can but only if the dog (either one) already has aggressive tendencies...

I was more worried about it causing problems at a night hunt. And just my personal preference but I hate a tree jacker.

If anyone is ever successfully at breaking this fault, I'd love to see it.

I know it's a fault but it's his only one I really like him except for that he's a nice young dog. Why do they start doing it for no reason he was a really stylish tree dog.

You could try this.For tree jackers:
a one foot piece of chain
0ne snap
one tennis ball
one paddle lock or chain hook
slice tennis ball just far enough to put paddle lock or chain hook inside. lock or hook should be large enough to just fit inside of tennis ball , the cut should be less then 1/2 of ball
put snap on one end of chain and other end chain can be attached to lock or hook how ever you want.
When dog trees try to get there as quick as possible. Snap the ball and chain to the dogs regular collar and step back a ways. The dogs jump will cause tennis ball to fly around usually hitting the dog on top or side of head. If you are consistent this will work on most dogs even the ones that have been jacking for a while. Dog doesn't associate it with you. It has to be done every tree if possible.
DON'T RUN THE DOG WITH THIS ON ONLY SHOULD BE USED AT TREE. One thing nice is you can hunt the dog alone and do this.

I keep thinking there is something I can do because until he was a year and a half old it never happened. So I would think it's not hereditary and he was never hunted with a tree jacker.

find someone with an old female that will put him in his place.
some of them old bitches are experts at making the kids behave at the tree.

Try tying him up with a slip lead at the tree instead of a normal lead, ride him tight the longer he trees with out doing it the less of a habit it will be. Bad Habits are tough to break, it will take time and persistence, but usually it can be curbed enough to hunt in a night hunt.

Avoid squalling, hooting,praising, knocking out coon anything that generates excitement around the tree.
Create a calm place around the tree.

Ive never saw nobody come back on here and say they had a tree jacking free dog now. I likely never will. They gonna do it. Just not when you see them.

they normally stop doing it when they get 8 or nine yrs old.

if you can tell by the way he trees if he is jumping or not, I would put a e-collar on him. I have did this with a dog on the #2 level. it tickles him just enuff to make his neck twitch. But you will have to be consistant and not let him fall back to his old ways. I could always tell when mine was jumping because he would bawl more on the tree and not tree as hard.

I had one that would jack the tree all night long. he tree just as hard as any other dog around and he jack the tree bad. I do know there well be a fight in a hunt if the right dog is there. the one I had did not go looking for a fight but with the jacking the tree so bad there has been a couple of fights. just because a dog jack the tree does not mine he or she has a fighting problem. good luck on stopping it npthing work on that dog

Jacking,chewing, digging... all just the way an individual dog deals with their frustation and excitment at not being able to get to the coon.
I have never been able to or seen anyone else change the way a dog trees in any kind of permanent way.
My huntin buddy bought a wipeout bred female a couple years ago (real nice dog) that was a nice treedog until you got to the tree, as soon as she saw ya comin she went on point, i mean she froze up like a statue just stareing at the tree, not up the tree like she was waitin for the crack but straight ahead at the tree trunk. We hunted her a couple weeks and never could get a bark out of her when she knew we were near the tree.
Wheather the way a dog trees is natural to them or the result of poor handling once it is established you either live with it or move on.
