I don't even know where to start. Max was a great man. He was one of the first of the old guard of coonhunters to take me under his wing when I started at UKC 25 years ago. It saddens me to think that many of todays hunters will never know or appreciate all that Max did for the sport of coonhunting. Without going into every detail I can tell you that Max was active in the State of Michigan on behalf of all hunters, he was active in the UEBFA on behalf of English houndsmen and he was a close personal advisor of UKC President Fred Miller during a time when the sport of Nite Hunting changed drastically to become a more family friendly activity.

Outside of coonhounds, Max and I were friends who shared many of the same interests and would talk for hours about everything from fox hunting to trout fishing to bird hunting to every sport a well-rounded Michigan outdoorsman is involved in. Max trusted to me a few of his cherished possessions which I will always treasure including his bamboo fly rod and Ithaca .22 rifle.

I'm gonna miss Max but I'll never forget him. I'm happy he is at rest and in a better place.
