Where did this come from?

Seems like when ever I go to a hunt these days and draw out with an English dog they are a tree jacker.I talk to other guys and you hear the same thing. I have watched several different videos on here that people have posted and their English dogs are bouncing up and down and all around.people say it comes from training(hang up coon ect) I don't buy that,people used hang ups in the 80's and 90's and I never saw all the tree jackers then.i hunted with and owned several off Carl Carroll's stuff and Bert oney's stuff and don't remember ever seeing them run the tree like these English dogs today.i am not saying they all do but the vast majority of the ones I have been around do and see the same thing in the videos and pics on here.Just wondering where it comes from?

Funny you mention this

With my experience I've seen it in a lot of walker dogs especially the females. I seen this last weekend at the Ukc hunt in Trimble Ohio this female was also mean that I drew in my cast. I've also seen this in some American blue ticks. My opinion is that's it's traits in their bloodline from my experience.

In the English dogs most of the tree jacking comes from the old junior blood we have one that is like a basketball at the tree.

You can thanks the ones that bred the bird dog in to the English breed for the hyper dogs....kennel pacers/tree jackers

it comes from

cant recall names of the dogs or the fellows names that took a walker dog an changed its papers to an english dog. Then they breed true english dogs into that walker dog not bird dogs. for fax on this conversation contact rocketman98 i believe is his user name Dave Mayles is his name out of Glouster Ohio. Thats the case in Ohio and states that surround us. As of farther states away im not sure about im not sure about where or why it came to be but you have to remember all breeds come from the English coonhound.

Tree Jacking

Well guess I will throw in my two cents as to where this trait (MAY) have started from, and again I will emphasize the word "may".

There were a couple of hounds back in the late 70's and early eighties that got bred a lot and made significant impacts on the English Breed.

These two hounds were Hard Time Speck and Beshere's Blue Boy II (Junior). A lot of good thing were brought into the english breed from these two hounds, but their was also some bad that came with it as well. And I would think a guy would be hard pressed to find an english hound today that did't have one of these two hounds in its pedigree.

(IN MY OPINION) this tree running/jacking is a trait that predominantly came from the treeing walker. What does that have to do with this you may ask. Well most everybody knew that Hard Time speck was a walker. single registered into the English breed. But not a lot of folks know that Beshere's Blue Boy II was half walker, coming off the Fish Creek line of walkers from in and around Texas. Now Speck and Junior were bred a lot. The Briar Creek dogs of todays era, have a lot of Junior blood in them. The Briar Creek dogs were also bred a lot a few years back, and are still being bred a good bit today. Additionally folks still like the hard time speck blood and the main street hounds of today have some Hard time speck in them. So That it why you are seeing this trait resurface in the english breed. These dogs have won many casts and everybody wants a winner, some folks want a winner no matter what the cost, LOL.

Again these are just (MY OPINIONS) and nothing more. This opinion and a 1 dollar bill will get you a cup of coffee in the average coffee shop. LOL. Good Hunting to you all!!

It is a trait that seems more common in the english breed to me.I would think it has to be coming from something closer in the generations then those dogs,unless they are line bred i guess.

Matt Ole buddy, sorry bout sticking the blame on those pretty spotted hounds, LOL. I didn't mean no harm, just stating my opinion. And by the way I have been hunting against those pretty walker hounds since the mid to late 60's. If memory serves me correctly, (any more most times it doesn't) it seems this tree jacking really came to the top in the early 80's to mid 90's. They really started jacking them hound up during that era and many of them got a little high strung, if you know what I mean. They would get so wound up it was sometimes hard to keep 2 feet on the ground, let alone 4, lol.

I sure don't want to offend anybody by stating my position, but that is one reason you do not see those strains in my hounds I keep. Not that they are not good at treeing coons because they are pretty good at that, there are just some other things about them that I don't care to deal with.

To each their own, if you feed them then it is really none of my business.

You know what I like about those English dogs Matt? They come Red, White, & Blue and these are my three favorite colors, buyt I must admit, I'm a little more partial to Blue LOL. Good Hunting my friend!!!
