I heard this Andy. What a true legend of coonhunting john was. His dogs left a big mark on the walker breed. What a good life john had. Sad to hear his passing..

John E. Shetler
88 of 694 Pleasant Valley Rd Sugarcreek and formerly of 4218 TR 420 Sugarcreek died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Walnut Hill Nursing Home. He was born April 8, 1925 in Holmes County to the late Eli J. and Malinda (Beachy) Shetler. He was a retired farmer and a member of the New Order Amish Church. He was married Nov. 28, 1946 to the former Sarah G. Schlabach and she died Sept. 30, 2006.
He is survived by his children Gary Lee (Wilma) Shetler of Holmesville, John David (Karen) Shetler of Fresno, Linda Mae (Edwin) Miller of Winchester and Barbara Ann (Jonas) Troyer of Sugarcreek, 25 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and his brother Vernon (Angela) Shetler of Sugarcreek. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Saretta Yoder and five brothers, Nelson, Eli Jr., Ivan, Levi and Melvin.
Services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 9 a.m. at the Jonas J. Troyer residence 700 Pleasant Valley Rd Sugarcreek with Bishop Ben Coblentz officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery in Walnut Creek Twp., Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the Jonas J. Troyer residence. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek.

john was a promoter and faithful supporter of the treeing walker breed for many many years.
