Heartworm and tick prevention
What do you guys recommend using to prevent heart worms and keep ticks off?
Ivomec once a month and a cattle tag on collar and Bauer tree and shrub once a month !! Oz of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure !!
Ivermectin each month and the serestro flea and tick collar. Thing lasts 6-8 months with no remembering to apply it. Works out to about $6 a month.

I prefer to use heart guard, using ivomec is known to be hard on a dogs liver. You also will get a dose of pyrantel dewormer every month with the hartguard. So your getting 2 meds in one dose.
I found a website petbucket.com based out of Australia, they sell heart guard with out a script needed, the shipping is free, and a year's supplies is 60 bucks. It does take a few weeks to show up.
Ticks are tough, ive had the best luck so far with previntic collars combined with sentry plus topical. Both can be purchased from Amazon reasonably.
However you can make your own advantix, which is known To be the best for ticks, By applying ivermectin then permithin, both can be purchased at a hardware store.
I work at a clinic and several of the assistants I work with use the Scalibor collars for ticks. They say it works great and its cheap and lasts 6 months. It also does fleas but there's some people that say not as well. You can get them on amazon for about $20. Then you can use a heartworm prevention like Sentinel/Revolution that gives you the added flea protection. I like sentinel its cheaper and does intestinal worms too. We give away the collars to our Revolution/Sentinel users.
I use trifexes it is for fleas worms and a heartguard. Put a preventic collar on for ticks and change all bedding to cedar shavings for a little help with preventing fleas an ticks
