Breed her. Great dogs come before great papers every time.
You may wish later on that you had made this cross sooner and if she is a top quality dog she will finish out soon enough. You have to decide what you goals are. We need more really good females to keep the redbone breed gaining. Keep her in good shape and you will only miss about 10 weeks of hunting.

I agree

I've thought that same thing before only to have something happen to the female. They are gone too fast.

Breed her if?

I assume she is a NTCH. If you are ready for a pup out of her then breed her. Titles are small in comparison to keeping something good going. I like titles and think they are very important though.

Thank you all. She is a nitech with one win to grand . Im doing a lot of thinkingabout it. If i breed her i will not have anything to hunt , i have a pup that is doing great but he needs a couple three month of training still. He is coming on strong. I guess i will have to way my options. Thamks again.

Tim,

I know it's more fun to hunt one that is going good or even a finished hound.

But the reality is that hunting that pup alone will only do it good. It will be frustrating as all get out, but it will pay off in the end. And like everyone else has said, the good ones are gone too soon. Especially females for some reason.

Just my 2 cents.

Best of luck with your decision....it's a tough one for sure.

Tim

If I were you Id breed her, the pups will be born at a really good time for them as far as next season. Its a tough call but id make it quick before you miss the cycle if your going to. Breeding to winners is a good way to get some winners!

Breed the dog. i had a female i really wanted pups out of but when she came in heat i decided to wait because i wanted a title on her. i had to put that female down a few weeks ago and she wasnt even two yet. but i. really had alot of fun hunting her. u never know what will happen between now and next heat cycle. i can tell u that from experience

Breed her late in the cycle so to have the pups May 1st- 2nd if she takes good if not hunt the hair off her. Good luck on your decision.

Know what ya mean on the heat and briars. Normally down here if ya hunt em until a few weeks before then you can get in back in the pretty soon just building back up to normal physical shape. However down here ya also have to wait until they dry up really well or you'll end up with them getting all ripped up on all the junk down here.

O

Would also say breed her if ya got one that's right then you never know what may happen and you end up having to start all over not only with a new hound but also with your breeding program.

I spoke to a man today that had been doing this for a while. He put everything in a very different view. I have decided to wait to breed her. Thank you all for your opinions.

Just curious what he said that convinced you. Always good to hear both sides of the story.

For me I got a dog to play with & enjoy . To few are really good at that so I don't worry about breeding til I feel like it's time for ME . Enjoy your dog , pups are a roll of the dice and may be in the cards anyway if things go right . You don't owe anybody anything because you got a nice dog .
