My old dog has started running deer!

I've got a 9 year old female that I've had since she was 4 months old, she had never had a deer problem at all.
I've been hunting her with a two year old , a few times thay got on something that a knew it wasn't a coon , the whole time I'm thinking its the young dog starting this!
The other nite I found out for sure driving out of woods the other night we see a buck in a green field, got the old dog out put the e-Collar her sent her the way the deer went & she opened up on it and started running , so I bumped her and she come back!
Put her back in box, got the 2 year old out and done the same thing he didnt even try too run it!
I'm wondering why she's started running deer when got old???

I've had old dogs thru the years that would buddy up with a young prospect and do silly things they never did before. Especially if they were kenneled together

I recently acquired an older dog, 7 going on 8, who was only hunted 3 times over the last year. Guy I got him from never had issues with him running deer. Now, I've only had hIm out about 5 times and have had a couple instances where he took off running deer. Earlier both nights he did this he tracked and treed on coon.

I think his problem is he hasn't been hunted enough. Because you can tell he is so excited and eager to go hunting that I think he's just picking up on the first track be comes across to run it. Sound similar to you at all?

The old dog I used to hunt, I wanna say he was around 8 or so would run one deer almost every night. He run coon the rest of night as long as he could get that one deer out of the way. Almost like he did it as some kind of warm up!

Strike me on a deer as long as they know when to get off and get treed with the meat i dont care. As long as they dont get caught im fine with it.

My old Grnitech bitch will still bump a fox every now and then. She doesn't sound much differant on track then a coon. But when she puts one in the ground she will stop barking and just trot off and go hunting again once, I get to the hole. Tells on herself every time. Otherwise just watching on the garmin or listening the track usually goes in circles.

Mine will get a strike alright, they'll think they got a lightning strike.

you can cross thread most any dog if you run it with enough crazy pups and young dogs. probly has nothing to do with her age, she just finally broke under the pressure. I have seen some older dogs do some strange stuff after being made puppy nuts from being hunted for years as trainer dogs.

ihave had two in the last thirty years get cross threaded as you say. And they sure were used as check dogs and puppy trainers and as just part of my pack in bad mucky situations . But thank goodness they were 11 or 12 before Sinility set in.

I had a bluetick male back in the 70's the only time he ever bumped deer was when hunting a pup with him he would bump one then switch over I think he was just trying to give the pup the slip as he was started and trained alone !

The best gyp I ever hunted was good for one cat a year hated them with a passion. I would get on her and she would not mess with another for about a year. When she was a young dog I would get so rough on her I would feel ashamed of myself still couldn't break her completely
