Help with pup

I have a male redbone pup that is about 6mths old. He seems scared of other dogs. The first time I took him to my moms during thanksgiving(she has friendly dogs) when they came up to him he dropped his head and lowered his tale and got aggressive with them. I popped him and told him no and he quit. I walked him around for a couple minutes then turned him loose and he was fine. Know he is fine when I take him over there. I have taken him to tractor supply a couple times, but there hasn't been any other dogs there. He is doing pretty good in the woods so any advice is appreciated.

Pup

First of all there are a lot of people on this forum that know 10 times more than me...but I would socialize him with other dogs , that I knew were not aggressive... Every chance I got.. Especially if he doing good in the woods... Maybe some other people will chime in with more and better advice... Good luck...

Exposure

If he isn't around other dogs he'll never get use to them. It only gets worse with time. Then however he acts will be on you becuase you didn't do what was needed. Dog parks, coonhunts and shows even if you don't enter are all good places to do this. That's why I got in the practice of competition showing before competition hunting so they are use to others before I randomly turn them loose with a bunch of dogs they don't know in the middle of the night. They seem to back other hounds better this way as some of the line I hunt seem be almost to independent. Either that or they are getting better thru breeding about that but I really attribute it to the extra socialization.

That's what I was thinking. I am just going to start taking him everywhere I go that is dog friendly. I want to start taking him to hunts to show him but I am worried about the way he might act towards the other dogs.
