Garmin Astro vs. Alpha?

What do you think is a better option? Is the Alpha worth the extra money for the extra features of the training collar included with the tracking? I looked at the advertising videos on Cabela's site, and the differences seem to be: tracking, training, maps included, and track buddies who also have a tracker. Is all this worth the extra $200?

Thanks Folks,
Good Hunting,
Brian

It's well worth the money IF you run a shock collar and a tracking collar. I have
both systems. The touch screen on the alpha is nice but when you're carrying it in your pocket with it locked the beep gets a little annoying everytime it goes off.

I traded my astro and dc collars in for the alpha and couldn't be happier especially on a smaller dog..the light feature on the collar has came in handy a couple times also.

Alpha all the way! I dont care for carrying a shocker along with a tracker.
Hobo you can mute the beep

Doesn't it have a tone button also for the dog also? If it does that alone with the correction would be worth it. You could teach your dog to come to tone and actually enforce the correction when it is way out there. It would be invaluable if your dog would be in harms way and you could tone it in. One of these days I would really like to have one. Only have one dog and she listens great but I still would like to have one. Just the other day My dog went out and it was raining pretty good. She went out a while and I was calling her to come. She ended up getting treed within 150 yards of me in the complete opposite direction that she went out. It really would be a great tool and buy a good piece of mind even with a dog that is no trouble. If I had my way I would have one and a couple more dogs but I don' get my way much and I am always limited with work and time.

Never owned an Astro..Bought an Alpha few months ago..I like it a lot even though I haven't completely learned how to use it ..I don't know how anyone every kept track of or trained a silent track dog without one..
