I see ads as well get phone calls / text on a regular basis from people looking for a finished hound (no such thing they need continual work) for aroung $500 . Don't mean to sound offensive but most $500 dollar dogs dont have it. I took time to estimate how I have in a hound by the time he 3 yrs. old, counting gas to hunt three nites a week six months , plus food and wormer the best I can guess is around $1150 a year plus my time and equipment use.

I hope this thread opens honest debate about hound prices .

lol..I agree with you sir,i wouldn't start over for no less than 7000 and my hound is just two and a half..i think some just don't have the money [including myself] and some are just hanging around like a vulcher actually wanting someone to get divorced or hospital bill or any kind of really hard time so they can take advantage and pay the guy less than half what the dogs worth..but there are some men in the world willing to pay a fair price for a well trained, hunted up, got what it takes coondog...just a glimpse of how I see it..

A dog is worth what a person that needs one will pay
I have owned or handled several and by handle I mean hunt I don't believe you train a top hound you hunt them and i have not gotten a dime for most all of them my pay was the enjoyment of the time in the woods with that hound it's a hobby for me not a way to make income that's just me
Several these that I owned or hunted the owner or persons I gave the dog to later sold for thousands some tens of thousands that is fine with me too
Every one has a different idea what ones worth

But I also get most every pup I start for free

I don't believe most of the sellers ever get their full investment returned.
However as stated above a hound is worth what someone will pay, no more/no less. The best two dogs I ever owner were free and $1200. I felt like I got the better end of both deals, but the sellers walked away from both deals happy as well. (The free dog was a Nt Ch female whose owner had been diagnosed with Cancer, I was currently without a dog and this person was happy to bless me and my sons with a dog to hunt)
The ultimate goal in selling a hound is to find that happy medium where seller and buyer are both satisfied with the transaction.
I also will not insult a seller with a lowball offer, I believe it is rude to do so. I saw a hound on here recently that had a bit of age (IMO), the price was about $800 to $1000 higher than I was willing to pay, despite the fact that I wanted the dog I did not make a phone call as we were just to far apart to make a deal that would leave us both happy in the end.

Some will Pay

there are some that will pay for the efforts and expense to make a top hound.

I just sold a 13 month old pup for 4000

I have sold several over 3000

And a couple over 10,000.00

You just have to decide what the hound is worth to you and be real carefull when you put a price tag on one and think no one will buy it,

because you may get a big suprise and some are very hard to replace.
