question for the breeders

What determines if a cross was successful or not? Just trying to see what the opinions are of others.

For me it was if a litter turned out, a few exceptional, a few above average and the rest averge with no duds! That is all a man can ask for.

I raised a litter of pups this summer and there just now 6 months old. The feed back that I have gotten so far is great. Out of 10 pups 5 are already being hunted and are above average for there age. 3 other pups went to youth hunters and they are very pleased with there progress so far. 2 are being used for blood trailing. I know all of them could fizzle out and not be worth a dang but I just wonder what everyone considers a good cross and worth making the same cross again.

Well, I may look at it different, but if every pup was above average, it's a good cross. With that said,if there wasn't at least one barn burner in the litter, I'd be looking at changing something up in the breeding..

As a breeder, doesn't matter what I'm breeding, I'm looking for that perfect cross that throws the ace. I can't find that cross settling for just above average stock.. just my opinion though..
