Dog limping

Ok I have a 2 1/2 year old B&T female,she's a really hard hunter,if I let her lay up for more than a day or two she will walk with a limp and hold her one front foot off the ground,initially we thought she had something in it,we looked and found nothing,had her too the be and they turned up nothing as well. Shortly after we did pull her off a tree with a huge white thorn in her foot,pulled it and got all of it. My question is should we put her on some type of joint supplement? If she's hunted regular she seems fine,almost like she's got a touch of arthritis. Thanks

If it goes on long enough that you can rule out thorns in her foot, consider DMSO. Find it in the horse care aisle. Use gloves when you apply (stinks to high heavens and goes through your entire system the moment you touch it). I had a dog that had a limp for over two months and it went away with one app of DMSO.

Thanks,it's the worst when she lays up,I hunted her the other night and she's limped for a two days now,the weather is crap here and can't get out,I feel horrible that she's limping,like I said when she is hunted up she doesn't limp,just a little stiff the next day which is normal.where do I find that stuff? Tractor supply maybe??

Some glucosamine & condrotin (probably didn't sp right) may help as a supplement everyday it's good for joint health . It can be bought at Tractor supply or about any where w/ pet products. If the goo & supplements doesn't seem to be working & this seems to be on going , take her back to vet ask for rymidyl it's a great anti-inflamatory . she could have pulled something and have an injury thats flaring up in a muscle or joint . If she just favors that one foot after hunting & no thorn or anything can be found & no signs of swelling or infection are present it's probably from a muscle or joint injury in that foot or leg . The rymidyl is kinda like ibuprofin for dogs it helps with inflamation & pain in joints from arthritis & reduses it on also on injured areas so they can heal . Also helps w/ inflamation in the throat if you ever have one loose it's mouth . I use it along w/ steroids (predisone) for that . Handy stuff to have around when you need it .

Have her tested for lymes first and fore most.

If its just regular joint pain, glucos supplements and asprin, both can be bought at tractor supply. The human form can sometimes can be more cost effective, but you need to take time to do the math on the proper dosages.

Thanks guys,I started her on glucosamine tablets today."cosequine ds" for dogs,also I have her leg a good rub down with DMSO,if it doesn't get better I will be taking her back to the vet for sure,I want to get this figured out because this dog is a coonhound deluxe,she's a blast to hunt and should title out fast I just hate seeing her limp and hurt.thanks for the replies guys!!

Has she been tested for lymes? If not this is a must... if not caught early enough there is a good chance she may never be the same again. Think about it,she's 2.5 years old it's a lot more likely she has a tick borne illness then experiencing arthritis at such a young age. Coondogs are hunting dogs, and are exposed to ticks on a regular basis. It's not very expensive to test or treat. Odds are she has it, especially if your up here around the north east. If you want to avoid going to the vet, just give her a 30 day dose of doxycycline. Jmo
