White River Refuge

Only 4 more days, I can't wait. I hear that it is going to look like an Old Folks Home for Redbone men down there next week with old guys like Joe Lewis, Dennis Van Buren, Carl Braun, Dale Weaver, Don Barnett, Danny Barrett and myself. I wonder who will we get to go retrieve the dogs when they get treed?

Sounds like you guys are going to have a good time. That has to be some of the best hunting in the country down in the Refuge. Only been once but I'm going to make it back one of these days!

I've heard that was good hunting. How many acres is it? Do you run into many hunters?

It is 160,000 acres of Government owned land that is legal to hunt. I'm sure you could run into other hunters if they happen to be around in your general area. It is anywhere from 3-10 miles wide and 90 miles long if that gives you any perspective. You can hunt a long, long time and never touch the same spot twice and not run into anyone else.

There are a lot of groups of hunters who go down there this time of year. It's a Thanksgiving tradition for many groups. I know there is a B&T group that meets in Marianna for this weekend and then about 1/2 of them hit the refuge hard next week.

If you ever get the chance to go, go. Don't hesitate, don't think about it, just go. It's honestly some of the best hunting in the country and I've hunted everywhere from the midwest to the southeast, mountains, plains, river bottoms, you name it. It has some unreal hunting. It always helps when you are going with a good bunch of guys too!

I think that these guys are just a bunch of old hide hunters.
I heard yesterday that a guy named Rob Farr was going to come down for a few days and that he might bring Mr Terry Hayes with him. (Farr's Rambling Red Little Zack and Hayes Rambling Red Zack) I bet those are a couple of guys with some stories to tell.
Brian it is in Southest Arkansas, between Clarenden and Dewitt. Holly Grove is the closest town but I doubt that you could find that on a map.

Just talked to Danny and it sounds like the first night was a good time. The boys are already having a good time, but haven't got into too much trouble yet. Take lots of pics guys. I want to see Gus doing his thing!
