KemmerXWalker
I think I have asked this before but has anyone ever crossed a walker with a Kemmer?

An pix Mr Wilson? The only reason I ask is because A: I have Kemmer dogs and B: One of the coolest dogs I've ever seen looks to be a hound cur cross. It was white and yellow. You know how on a walker you have a white dog with black blanket back but this one was yellow where the black should be.
When I asked the guy what the dog was out of he told me he didn't know. I'm just guessing it was a walker and Kemmer cross?

quote:I will try to come up with some pictures. The sire of these pups is buckskin yellow and has all yellow dogs for 3 gen behind him. The dame is open spotted white, black and a little tan.7 pups 2 brindle 2 black with brindle trim 2 black white and brindle 1 brindle white trim. I was told before I made this cross that if you cross a 100% yellow kemmer on walker most all pups would be brindle.all of this litter had brindle on them. Go figure.

A friend of mine made a cross of a mtn view cur male (basically a linebred Kemmer) on a walker female. Lots of nice dogs came from that cross. If I remember correctly there were 2-3 brindles, a black & tan, a red, and a black & white one. I've been wanting a streak bred cur crossed on a clover bred walker for quite some time. As soon as my hounds are gone that's what I plan to switch to.

So what are the major differences between a treeing and say a mt cur? Colder noses, further ranging, harder treeing? I'll be honest I am intrigued by all the treeing cur talk. I grew up with coon hounds and recently got into curs. I really enjoy the hunting style of my cur and how easy she handles!
I have never owned a treeing cur, but I know that I have seen some mnt curs out there tree harder than some hounds so I don't know if that's why they cross them up. Me personally, I wouldn't want to much nose cause then you could have the chance of comin up short if you ask me. This is kinda why I started this post is because I'm a Kemmer guy but before that I was a walker guy so I'm wondering how this might turn out if I crossed a Kemmer cur with a walker. I think if I do it it should be Kemmer male on a walker female.

quote:I like using A walker female on a cur male. When you get the rite one you will have a good cur that trees like a good walker. I coon hunt 90% of the time and most full curs do not work for me. If I was a hard core squirrel hunter I would stick with a full cur. I am hard to please and cull a lot of dogs to find what I like. But it is worth it when you get what you are looking for.

My mnt cur female trees pretty hard, I love it when she spits out that triple chop.
