Unless you are gonna send the kid out there to hunt by him/herself why would you want it to be bright??? All kids will do is blind you with a bright light. I have a 7 Y.O. son and got him an LED headlamp from Lowe's. I am sure Wal-Mart has them too. You can shine and show him/her the coon, my thoughts are that until they learn not to shine it in everyone's eyes they only need a light bright enough to walk with and cheap enough to see if they are really gonna stick with it. Now if the kid is older and understands how to use it then I would go ahead and get them a decent light that will last several years. I like the Northern Lights Predator sold by Eisenhutt's Dog Supply. It's a little pricey so I put a lanyard on even mine. Good luck with the kid...the best we can hope for is that he or she will like it and stick with it.

kids light

Hey mike I really like the critter getter that bubby sells. He's got a thread on the vendor page called Craig's creek kennels an supply. Cheap , light , and pretty tough. Check it out.

You can buy a cheap lite for about $20-30 that has a elastic head band. Runs off of 3 triple a or double 3 A.. We used them a lot the last few yrs summer hunting.. They are brite enough to shine med size trees.. The newer ones are a lot brighter have different colors like the red and green ,With the brite white also...We put them in our hunting coats for back ups just in case we have lite problems in the winter...
