Rat Poison and Dogs

I am sad this morning because last night a promising young redbone female of mine died from ingesting rat poison. I am angry at myself and feeling guilty for not being more responsible in putting it in a place where she couldn't get to it. But most of all I am angry at the makers of this poison for not making a antidote to counter the effects. I am writing this not only to report my loss but to pass on to my fellow dog lovers what I have learned the hard way about this product. I bought this poison at Tractor Supply. The brand name is Tom Cat with an active ingredient of BROMETHALIN. Many poisons contain warfarin and Diphacinone which thin the blood in the rat and they bleed to death internally. This is bad enough but if eaten by a dog with doses of vitamin K it can be saved. Bromethalin attacks the nervous system causing the animal to lose all control of mussels and eventual the heart stops. I cannot understand why a company is allowed to produce a product like this with no known antidote that anyone can walk in a store and buy with no restrictions whatsoever. I hope all who read this can benefit and be aware of this dangerous product.
