Do you think Indiana will ever change their rules???

Wondering if they will change this 2 week break of running dogs..Personally think it is dumb and has no effect on deer hunting.

Change.....?

It has already been moved up 10 days from the original and there is no shut down after kill season goes out, straight into running season.....
A big Thank You should go out to HTDA........!!!!

No effect on deer hunting

I wouldnt think it has anything to do with deer hunting, Archery season opens Oct 1st every year and shot gun opens nov. 16 and coon opens nov.8th

larry exactly my point. So why is there a break? I just think we need to continue to work on getting it taken out of the rules. Most states are not like this..

Illinois Same

I believe Illinois is same way. Must be a reason both do it. I dont know what the reason is though. Also in Illinois coon season goes out during the 2 firearm deer hunting weekends. At least Indiana doesnt do that. Maybe the DNR is trying to promote family time before the season comes in and we are all out running the woods all night every night haha.

No restrictions on running your fox or coyote hounds at night during the quiet time.

Well guys get this durin' deer shotgun no coonhuntin' till the last day of gun,but muzzle loader, handgun,we can coonhunt,I can't see the difference.

I use to live in IL and I deer hunted alot. The firearm season can get a little crazy being just 2 weekends. There were a ton of people out hunting on top of each other. The muzzleloader season is same but not a whole lot of people around my area hunted it and the pistol season is now just a firearm season for only does and most meat hinters have already got there meat by january when it comes in. You can use your pistol during the firearm season now. All in all hate the shutdown for the firearm season in IL but its prob good for safety as ive seen enough crazy deer hunter get into it over those weekends you add coonhunters and itd prob be mass chaos lol. IL kinda makes up for it by going about 2 weeks longer than IN. I live on the state lines and hunt both states. Guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

Try Michigan... We get our running season closed from middle of April untill second week in July

i think

in illinois they are afraid you might start shootin coon early or somethin. i have lived here all my life and still havent figured it out. as far as gun season thats just irritating why they have to shut it down. maybe worried someone will poach a big one while out coon hunting.

Do not break them. Dual purpose hounds bring top dollar

I second that, thanks HTDA for our longer running seasons! When I first started hunting, you couldn't run in Indiana from Feb.1 to May 1, and again from Oct.15 to Nov.8. As to why there is still some closed time from running season till kill season I think is pretty simply they feel too many would start killing and freezing them before season and try to close it while they are still blue.
