Another Rule Question

Ok a 3 dog cast all dogs are struck in, dog a is off to the left dog b is to the right and dog c is following dog b. Dog b is declared treed and dog c is also treeing but never declared treed. Tree is closed after the 5 and dog c is still not declared treed but when judge arrive dogs b and c are on tree and tree is a den, so dog b is circle points. How is dog c scored, is dog c minused?

Let me guess, dog C was yours and you got minused? This seems to be a common rule mistake. They read rule 4G and apply it to every situation where a dog is handled treeing but not declared treed. But in fact, 4g only applies when the tree is minused. It cannot be applied if the tree is circled or plussed.

Of course not tree, dog C was not treed so it has no tree points to score.

No I was the judge and did circle strike no tree points but the guy who owned dog A wanted him minused both ways and I said no it is circled. I just wanted to clarify that I had made the right call and from what you say, I was correct. Just for the record my dog was B...lol

Yeah, I think Paul should do an Advisor column on 4g just because it is so misunderstood.

Yes they should do a column and explain the difference when the tree is circled, plussed or minused. Would help with the confusion on rule 4G.

Jim is correct... My experience is that many judges will want to delete dog Cs strike in this situation which is incorrect, but very rarely makes a difference in the outcome of the cast.
