I KNOW THERE ARE SEVERAL GOOD FOODS OUT THERE ,.BUT I WANA FEED MY FEMALE THE BEST THAT CAN BE FED TO HER AND HER GROWING PUPS INSIDE.IVE GOT HER ON A GOOD VITAMIN SUPPLIMENT BUT AGAIN I WANA GET HER ON A BETTER FOOD THAN HER NORMAL DOGFOOD IM LOOKIN FOR THE RIGHT KIND ,SO I CAN HAVE SOME GOOD HEALTHY PUPS,,THANKS ,,,HAVE A BLESSED ONE ,,,RON

A quality puppy chow ie black gold puppy chow I have fed to pregnant females with great results. Now I just feed my regular high protein high quality feed and pups are always healthy.

I don't know if its any better but about 2 weeks before pups I always put mine on puppy food mixed with some puppy milk replacer... My last litter I made her food myself, and would mix the raw dog food with puppy food and milk replacer... Had 8 BIG pups

Victor Puppy (red bag)...feed to her now & while nursing pups then to pups when time. I give my nursing momma's a little cottage cheese & liver everyday.
When puppies are big enough to start on food I run the puppy food along with a little goats milk (powdered or fresh if you can get it ,it can be frozen) through my food processor (works better than my blender) to make a mash.
Victor is a high quality good food -grain free...I feed the purple bag to my dogs that are hunted.

ron dont know what part of illinois your located but just had my first litter 4 weeks ago she had 12 fed her 1 can of soft puppy pro plan mixed with taste of the wild puppy food its pretty pricey and also tablespoon of kayro syrup in each serving 3 times a day the taste of the wild can get it at rural king. pups all big and healthy and she looks better than ever. the soft pro plan really helped the few days before birth she didnt want to eat much hope this helps.

Pro plan puppy. Feed her 4 times a day in her last 2 weeks. Do not add anything to it. You can cause more problems by over doing it then you can by just feeding a good feed. I can send you my text book pages out of my vet tech classes on reproduction if you want to read it. Just good feed and enough of itwill be all she needs.

At about the half way point of the pregnancy I feed my females 50/50 the same food I normally feed and Purina puppy chow. Has always worked well for me.

ron I use pro plan performance never change them pups grown dogs and all .. it works great.. its absoulaty the best feed on market.. dogs does great on it.. its made for all life stages.. you will like the way your pups and female both look..

I fed mine PP puppy with about a 1/4 scoop of K9 Puppy gold mixed in with it. started it about the time she started showing so I knew she was pregnant. I only fed her 2x day but increased the amt she would eat. then she put herself on a diet and refused to eat. so I got a couple of the Natural Balance dog food rolls and shredded some into her feed and she ate fine. then continued w/ pups on ground up PP puppy/dry milk powder/puppy gold mixed w/ water to make the mush.

yes they need worming with a good quality wormer every 2 weeks.. and feed quality feed pro plan performance or pro plan puppy is ok.. just make sure to switch them to performance and puppy food at 6 months old.. I use show stopper at that age also.. iv always had good results with it.. hope this helps you RON.. steve Randolph

Ron, we've used oxymate in the past on an AI breeding that we had out of a 13 year old stud dog and a 7 year old female. We gave it to both of them and had 2 excellent healthy puppies. Oxymate is a good high quality product and so is pro plan dog food. Sounds like your on the right path! Best of luck with the pups!!

Ron,

Honestly, after 30+ years of raising pups I can tell you that any "premium" food is going to do what you need it to do along with the vitamin supplements that you have.

Don't fall into the temptation to give her extra calcium and such, in the belief that it will make for "better" pups. And don't "over" feed your female. Feed her just as you normally would up until a week to 10 days before she actually has the pups....and here is the reason. You don't want your female to become obese or overweight. Just carrying a belly full of pups is a workout to a female, so you don't need to compound that by adding 5 or 10 pounds of "fat" to your pregnant female. Over supplementing them and over feeding them will also run the risk of her having HUGE pups....and that raises the risk of pups being born dead, or with you paying out the nose for a C-section.

Save the supplements and heavy feeding for AFTER she has the pups...we really want her to have as much milk and as healthy vitamin rich milk as she can produce....lots of water, lots of extra calcium, iron, and magnesium (such as are in your pet tabs) and as much good quality high protein/high fat feed as she wants to eat after she starts nursing the pups.....

To sum it up...you want her to be in the same weight range right after she gives birth as she was when you bred her, and you need to feed her alot to keep that weight while she is nursing the pups.
