I've never had clouds mess with mine and just to prove they work better. We could have a contest. Let somebody hide each of our collars in a spot. See who lays hands on the collar first. The garmin user or the beep beep user.

ya but not on a clear night lets do it when a storm rolls in ! once the heavy clouds move in your garmin won't get the satilite it needs and you can wait for signal while go to my dog and get out of the weather!

got both and i remember the days of not having any kind of tracking system. I like both forms of tracking and not everyone can afford a garmin, but I will not turn a dog loose without some kind of tracking system on them. I hunt squirrel dogs with just the beep most of the time. But at night i like the garmin.

Clouds, storms, whatever, I have never had anything effect mine except a Polaris side by side, that thing screwed it up. Or maybe it was just the driver.....

I, like many others on here hunt in many different types of weather. I have never had heavy clouds, heavy cover (Leaves & underbrush) effect the ability of my Garmin. About the only thing around here that effects the range is rugged terrain.

If you think cloud cover affects a Garmin, you have never used a Garmin.

well guess only in canada they have problems . because last year yote hunting with hounds snow storm came in and if was not for the beep beep we would of not found the dogs , also seen them lose signal when a thunderstorm came in , so i guess it just handler error .

The only night I ever had issue with my garmin it started snowing while we were hunting and I mean hard. The garmins just flat didn't work and you couldn't hear the dogs worth a nickel.

The snowfall really didn't amount to much but for about 4 hours it was a white out.

Anyone with the remotest connection to technology is aware that today’s media is glutted with articles and personal narratives lauding the efficiency of GPS vehicle tracking systems.

We know that GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite based navigation and surveying system designed for locating a person or an object in three dimensional space. We know that it was originally developed as a military application, but has since been mainstreamed to serve the needs and budgets of the typical consumer. And while its location tracing power is highly accurate, there are many areas throughout this country where weather forecasts don’t always call for sunshine and clear skies. Inquiring minds thus want to know: Do snow and rain affect GPS tracking accuracy?
The answer is no. While atmospheric conditions such as rain or snow can weaken signals, they generally do not affect GPS reception. Some conditions, however, apply, such as positioning of the antenna. If your GPS tracking antenna has a thick coating of water or snow, then you can expect the accuracy level to drop. Also, if the antenna is mounted in the front window of your vehicle, it is possible that the motion of windshield wipers could impede the signal lock capability of your GPS. With battery operated GPS tracking devices, cold batteries can emit less power, thereby causing signal degradation.
In short, GPS successfully functions in all weather conditions just about all over the world.

I think my issue was the reception between handheld and collar was compromised by the intense snow, as you know its a RF signal nothing to do with GPS.

In this case with both a beep-beep and the Garmin as both work on a radio signals I would assume neither would work?
I've never hunted in real heavy snow storm but have been in some heavy rain and never had a problem with loosing signal, I'm usually sitting in the pickup.LOL!

I lost a hound in a cave!!! With a beep system, I would have lost the dog forever. With the garmin, I went to the ? mark and found the hole my dog entered, called the spelunkers and they retrieved my dog from the cave!!!! Thank's to Garmin and the spelunkers that dog is still eating my feed!!!
