problems with an 5yr old coon dog

The other night we turned my old dog and pup loose. My old dog ran in a straight line for close to a mile. He never pulled the first bark and I can't figure out why. He is usually a really consist ant coon dog. Another guy I hunt with has a really nice red dog that did the same thing the same night just across the county. He said he has never seen his dog do that either. Anybody got any theories on what might have happened. I know we didn't dry drop em cause we were trying to get my pup goin on a bucket and both dogs were hunted up.

Same thing with my dog

About 2 weeks ago we turned loose and my 7yr old dog ran straight up a creek for about 800 yds lost communication and had to drive around to get him. He never opened up either? The only thing I can think is bear hunters run dogs a lot and maybe he was trailing there dogs????? WEIRD!!!

Maybe there wasn't a coon track in that straight line?

I was hunting him and my pup on a bucket that is usually loaded with coon. And we don't have bear where I hunt that I know of

Most time in my country if it's a striaght line over a mile it's not a coon 9-10 its a bear . Ran one other night 1.12 striaght line never stopped barkin till I got close enough on back side to give some Tri tronics

My Dan dog done that once you got older everytime we turned him he just ran and ran. We thought he had lost his mind, but that might not be your hound

I had an older female that would do that when hunted with an aggravating pup, if the pup is bothering your dog it could be trying to get away?

bIngo

The night I had my 7yr old do that we took a 18 month old bluetick pup out that had been pinned up for 6 mths. I bet that's what he was doing cause she was beside him the whole way and he is usually all business in the woods.

I usually hunt my pup with my old dog. Maybe he just got tired of the pup that night who knows. They get hunted together bout every night so maybe he just wanted a break. Where's doctor do little when u need him lol
