Corky, I just traded a guy a couple months ago for an 04 6.0. All in all I like the truck but have had a couple issues. Make sure that he looks under the hood extremely good. I didn't and missed an issue that could have been huge. I had oil in my coolant which came from a busted oil cooler which the 6.0 are notorious for. Also think strongly of doing an egr delete on the truck if it hasn't been done. It looks like a clean truck for he money though. Make sure he does his research on the 6.0 before making a decision they are nice trucks if certain upgrades are made. Also be sure to change all the fluids religious, that is usually the stem of most issues in the 6.0. Also if he is looking for somthin fuel efficient the 6.0 is not the way to go. I only get about 15 mpg whereas when I used to haul livestock frequently with a 04 cummins I was getting about 18 or more.

I have a 6.0 and have had little trouble with it compared to alot. Most of our troubles did come after 100,000 miles. Have put several egr delete kits on them. They are known for oil cooler going bad and most of the time it damages engine before caught. Mine is in a 550 rollback and gets around 10 mpg, sure a pickup will get some better but they are not known for good milage.

Good looking truck, but I would probably pass esp. for a young person. Why does he need a 3/4 ton truck?

I do not own a Ford. But up here all the young guys buybig diesels 3/4 ton. then they will want two big stacks up through BED. then chip.it and other things so it runs hard.

Good luck.

All I need is 1/2 ton.

Corky I agree wit Jonathan 6.0 have ALOT of trouble unless u get the fix kit for em an that's bout $2000 ! If he want a ford diesel a 7.3 is the best to go wit! We lookin for on rite now !

Posted by Slough on 09-10-2013 10:11 PM:

OK, to sevice a 6.0 with premium filters, air, fuel & oil plus 4 gallons of oil and doing it youself= $254.00

Same 5.4= 81.62

tell him to stay away from the 6.0 they are junk if he has to have a diesil tell him to get a 7.3 they are a good motor if they have been taken care of the reason im telling you this is my buddy worked as a mechanic for ford for 38 yrs said he wouldn't own a 6.0 but he likes the 7.3 in his 97 f 250 he just bought a brand new 012 fing ranch last fall with the new 6.7 and likes it really well if he looks at a f 150 don't get 1 with the v6 in it i think thier a 4'6 hope this helps y'all

My 06 5.4 gets 18 or better on the road which aint bad for a 4x4. Now pulling a load with the overdrive cut out, it doesnt do near as well but has plenty of power.
