Skin issue/question w/pic
Take a look at this, have any of you had or seen this before? I have had dogs get a hot spot but never this size. I will give you all the info I can. Dog is just over a year old. This came up but was much smaller. What I have done so far - wormed him using panacur 2 weeks apart (passed some blood on the first week so I believe he had hookworms). Cleaned this area with a bleach water solution, put some antibiotic cream on it (more than once) - just cleaned with a tick/flea shampoo. He doesn't bite/chew/scratch at it. He has clean dry bedding, cedar chips now but he did have wheat straw. Any ideas what it is and how to get rid of it. Vet is next step.

sarcoptic mange????? I had an old dog that had it and an ol boy said to put pine tar on it. Its been a few years but it worked.
give him ivermectin. squirt 1/2 cc in his mouth once a week for 3 or 4 weeks. it is mange more than likely.

Wash your dog with Sulfudine shampoo or T-Gel the human kind - for people w/ scalp issues like psoriasis & eczema...has coal tar & sulfur in it (about $2 @ wal-mart or dollar general) every couple days lather up let set atleast five min before rinsing.
Apply Benadene ( can be bought about any store w/ pet section about $5) atleast 2x a day ...kills about anything from skin funguses ,bacteria , viruses even staph.
Squeeze on that spot & see if any pus or fluid comes out if so may need some antibiotics too or some penicillin if you you've got some 3cc -3 days in a row...

Looking at the photo on my phone is awfully small, but it looks like mostly the area still has hair on it? If a dog spends a good deal of time licking one spot, you will see it turn that color on white coat. I've seen both wheat straw and cedar cause dogs problems, so I wouldn't rule out that possibility. But if you strongly suspect that he had hookworms at some point recently, I would bleach his pen and dog house, and hit him with another round of fenbendazole wormer in a couple weeks making sure to dose him 3 days in a row. Hooks can be hard to get rid of and in some cases do cause skin issues. If I treat a dog for hooks I try to be extra vigilent about also treating their living area, or you'll just end up with a vicious circle.
For the record, I'm also a firm believer in Nu-Stock. There haven't been many skin/wound issues I haven't been able to heal with Nu-Stock and blue lotion spray on my dogs and horses! If Nu-Stock doesn't seem to be helping within about a week or he has any other issues come up I'd definitely look into a vet visit.

The reddish stain is from his saliva; a dog's saliva will stain fur when they chew on or lick a particular area. He may have just licked the area once in awhile, & it will still stain like that from the saliva. Could another dog have been licking that area, or is he kenneled alone ?
The photo makes me wonder if he was bitten by an insect (spider, mosquito, tick), & the area became itchy, so he licked it a bit, until the itch went away....that would explain why you don't see him biting or chewing the area now, and it would also explain the reddish stain.
His skin almost looks like it is bumpy in the stained area; if it is, that is probably a bacterial infection, which would be secondary to whatever caused the problem in the first place. It sure looks like a bite to me.
Make sure he is on a high-quality diet (to help his immunity), & you can clean the area with hydrogen peroxide, which will disinfect the area and remove the stain.
ivermectin
whether its hooks or mange ivermectin will take care of it. If its pussing and looks like a burn it could be a large hot spot from fleas or chiggers
