Aggressive dogs
Why do people keep and hunt hounds even after they know they are alligators on the tree? Which breed is the worst?
The worst has to be a slick treeing Walker. Alligators love them.
AGGRESSIVE DOGS
LIL E YOU MUST GOT BEAT BY THEM SLICK TREE WALKERS LOL THERE GOOD BAD IN ALL BREEDS
Some pleasure hunt them because they are often good dogs. Some competition hunt them knowing they can win if the dog doesn't get caught.
The sad thing is that they ruin many young dogs and even older dogs tend to get very touchy toward other dogs if hunted with them often.
No breed had a monopoly on ill dogs. Most are males but some females are ill and often are worse than males.

I've seen dogs that would put their backs toward the tree while treeing, and dare anything else to come in to the tree lol I would consider that a gator, I don't pay much attention to dogs blowing at trees and bickering in the box. I don't see as many mean dogs as people act like there is. I do however see dogs that will stay treed under fang pressure, and if that makes one mean, then I'll keep hunting my mean dog.
I've seen a few backup to the tree and keep all the other dogs back but any dog that won't allow another dog on the tree through intimidation is mean. Any dog that keeps trying to bodily push the other dogs off the tree is mean, etc.
Any dog that won't allow a dog to bump it with out reacting with teeth is mean (often learned in self preservation).
There is a fine line between staying under fang pressure and mean and most (not all) will cross it if continually hunted with ill dogs.
And most of the people who defend mean dogs the are the ones who have them or like them.

quote:the dog doing the bumping is the problem starter. how long are you gonna stand there and let some other guy push you in the chest before you do something about it. not very and that's the problem with a dog bumping other dogs at a tree then the dog that has stood there and treed gets called the rough dog cause it took all the shoving it could take an fixed the problem. when the problem wasn't fixed at home another dog gets the bad rap for it.

My favorite saying is "my dogs not mean but he won't be pushed off a tree"
If he's fighting or snapping even semi regularly bc he's being "pushed off the tree", no ones trying to push him off the tree YOU HAVE A MEAN DOG!
I was a spectator on a cast one night and a fight broke out at the tree. When we got there all dogs were behaving properly but two were bleeding. The one owner said "this is rediculous I don't know why so many people hunt mean dogs. Ever time I enter a hunt my dog gets chewed up"!
We all just looked at each other and finally one guy said "hey buddy, if that's true it's obvious YOU have the mean dog.........he just can't fight very good".
Of course the guy insisted his dog isn't mean.

MEAN
I drew a mean dog one time ,didn't know it until he struck him I said whats your dogs name? he told me I said oh noooo... after all the dogs got stuck .he said why what you heard about him...I said I heard he would just about kill another dog ....he said he can hold his own...when we got to the tree my dog was 25 yards still treeing with blood on his back ,another dog left ...and a redbone limping around...the only dog on the tree was the ill dog that could hold his own had blood all over his back .the owner walked up ..leashed him up and said who you been fighting with?then ask the judge is he ready for him to start shining.SO I THINK THE DOG MATCHES WHOEVER IS HUNTING THEM ,THEY WANT TO WIN NO MATTER WHAT,AND THERE RUTHLESS.IM GETTING CLOSER BY THE DAY TO QUIT COMP.HUNTING.A DOG IVE WORKED 3 YEARS ON SHOULDNT HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT.DRIVE 20 HOURS TO DRAW A IDIOT AND SPEND 500 TO 600 DOLLARS ,MAKES YOU THINK.
Unfortunately It happens in all breeds . I have a good understanding partner and we just shoot them . We've lost money time and it doesn't feel good when we do it until the mean sucker is put down . The signs are always there . Running nipping at dogs when turned loose . We tend to say its just the pup in them . Pinchy on hang ups or caged coons . Jumping etc . The signs were always there . Dominate over feed when pups. Jealous . If everyone was honest that's had a mean dog they have seen it all along either they paid a lot of money for it or spent a lot of time training it for some reason or another not many people cull . Its always unpleasant but afterwards a relief to give them a dirt nap . I see fewer I'll dogs today than in the 90's but I don't go to as many hunts . I think we are getting better at pup socializing and judges tend to write them up better now than in past . Stop letting them withdraw due to friendship or worrying about angering anyone . They are not your friend if the put a gater in a cast . Sorry to ramble .

I go to just as many hunts as anyone.. (99% other KC where y'all say "the mean ones hunt"). In fact it is my full time job... And I can count on 2 hands how many "mean" dogs I've drawn... Dogs that are falling on each other and bouncing around and blow a little bit or turn there head while barking aren't mean... That's an intense tree dog. If you were working and someone ran and jumped on you wouldn't you holler "what the hell" or "what the hell are you doing" and get a little upset... Yeah... I couldn't even begin to tell you how many hunts I've been to since I've drawn a mean dog... But I do know when it was. April 2012. I know that there is some mean dogs out there... But where are you guys going to draw so many mean ones that it could cause you to stop hunting in the hunts or to complain about it all the time? Because as many hunts as I've been too... I just don't see it... Same goes for people getting cheated at every hunt they go to... More of an excuse than anything.
lucky
U are very very lucky man I have hunted fifty years they are a lot more mean dogs than you think .so I respectively disagree with you you will find out just hope it doesn't bite you in the but

I attend alot of hunts and i cant even remember the last cast i drew a rough dog. Maybe a little blowin or bumpin but nothin that drew blood. The guys that claim they draw mean dogs on a regular basis need to be a little more honest with themselves about their own dog..

Im with Nat. Its really not a problem and like that other post said. Most times the ones crying are the ones with a rough dog. I have one 11 yr old. Yeah in her career she's fought 3 times to. She's also treed with no telling how many other dogs and pups. Hundreds. Bad part is I do remember her last one and it was on a hunt. When you get to the tree and have to get her whole chest and neck sewn up the next morning. You remember that stuff. She was still cranking them off though. Plus. I don't think the young guy really did know his dog was rough. He was a master at it. Im sure he bullied most off without a problem. On the same night. He chased the other dog around and around another tree. We could hear it but never actually caught him. Yeah he was a grntch to. How he got there. I have no clue. He's gone from this country now though.
