I think you are right, Hussler is behind Zeb through Albert in a pedigree I've got somewhere.

Broad Ax Bl Max

Used way too little. One of the best litters I ever raised here was out of ol' Max. He put mouth, independance, stick power and go in them. I just lost one of the last ones out of him here a little more than a year ago. Wish I still had some of that stuff back,up close. O'l Max didn't win any beauty contests but he made up for it in other areas. And yes, he was fairly close up on Hussler breeding. Mr. Dave W. can tell more on that subject. Sorry I know this was supposed to be about Albert but I just had to blow on Max a little. Albert was a great one in his own right. Thanks

Ron

Thanks Ron. Blow on some of the old dogs all you want. I might finally learn a thing or two. Mr. Woofter must be holding that information close to his vest, I couldn't weasel that info out of him. lol. There was a female we had here that was out of a Nt Ch male who was out of Albert III and a female out of Albert. Then she was Smokey River and some Uchtman on her bottom side. She crossed well on a male we had out of the Ohio Valley dogs which have Uchtman and some Hussler blood in them. Then she also crossed well on my Jimmy dog which they have similar blood. She got me more curious about the bloodlines and then I started noticing it more. Bill Hubbard told me there was a lot of independence in the Albert dogs. All that has made me want to learn a little more about the dogs in the pedigree.

Pansy

Was out of Terry Warson's Northern Blue Trapper and Wilder Creek Blue Sue.. Trapper was a brother sister cross I believe Hammer II x Echo II... Hunted with Pansy and my good friend had a daughter of hers in the 70's...

Thanks John. My old Cassie female was a half sister to Albert. She was out of Max and my old Bonnie female. I finished Cassie into Nt Ch with 3 first place wins, all from split trees. You could be shining a tree and Cassie would trail right past you and get her own tree twenty feet away. Pull wasn't in her vocabulary at all. I'm hunting a grandson of hers here now that has many of the same traits. I Bred ol' Bonnie to some other top studs but the cross on Max was, in my opinion, the best. Yes I believe this is some very good blood and the closer to Old Max, the better. Of course, this is just my opinion, that and $5.00 just might get you a cup of coffee! LOL Oh BTW, Mr. Woofter could tell you some things about old Hussler and Mr. Deans Hammer dogs that will leave you with your mouth hanging open and wanting more. Hey Dave, tell us more!LOL

Smile Mr. Woofter

He has been hand raising 10 pups, I bet he'd rather have a tooth pulled than talk blue dogs right now :-)

I went up and visited with Mr. Woofter Sunday for a couple hours or so. He was doing a good job talking about the blue dogs and his wife was doing an excellent job with the pups. lmbo.

That sounds about par for the course.LOL Dave is a wealth of knowledge.
Bonnie was out of Mr. Deans duel Gr Hammer XIII and Gr Nt Ch Wilson's Mo Blue Hannah. Hannah was mostly Casey bred up close but went back to some older stuff like Quail Creek Jimmy, Edisto River Warrior, Ucthmans So Blue Ranger & Parrymans Blue John. Those are some of the more notable ones. Hammer XIIIs side is pretty well known.

Ron

That is what I was thinking she was out of but wasn't positive. Seems like the Uchtman dogs mixed with some of the Hammer stuff works out real well. I've been studying some pedigrees and have noticed that mix is there in some pretty good dogs and reproducers. Just seems like when blood is mixed, and a good cross is produced, then the offspring is then line bred back to the side of choose. I've hunted with several different dogs out of different bloodlines and I think there is a lot of good traits in different bloodlines but for some reason or another they don't get the credit from people that follow the other bloodlines.

Post

I am learning a lot from this post. Driller is spot on. Didn't you know the Great Ohio Hammer ( in my eyes LOL! ) was out of a Hussler II and Pansey female. I bred Pansey II to Hammer V at the spring Ashland hunt and that's were Ohio Hammer came from. I bred Kelly to Broad Axe Blue Max's just before Ron Bred Bonnie but I didn't get any pups. I am not telling everything I know. Didn't know you Old Boys were talking on this site. I have a little Albert Blood. Mr. Smith I could tell you all about Pansey as I was with Doc when he bought her and hunted her a lot. Dave P.S. She was Bred to Old Hussler and Hussler II.

Mixed up

John, sometimes you just don't know what's gonna' work but you're right, some of the old Hammer and Ucthman stuff seemed to work good. If you look at Bonnie's pedigree and Max's pedigree, it all goes back to hammer a lot through several dogs such as Casey's stuff and old Hussler. Why, there is even some ol' Diamond jim on back in Max,s ped. It's like a big puzzle, you never know what it's gonna' look like till the final piece is in.

Talking hounds

This would be a lot easier if we were all sitting around a table in Ohio somewhere.

Mr. Woofter

I forgot to ask you the other day, but when are you going to start your crossbreeding program? It looked like you were getting the parts assembled to create the perfect coon treeing hound (or dog depending on if you blend in the squirrel dog). lol.

The Squirrel dog really isn't mine but he's a Goodin. He's owned by a good friend of mine. Dave

I like ole Dave, he's a pretty good feller from what I can tell. lol. He does seem to know a thing or two about them Hussler dogs. I just got to listen to guys like him and Dad that hunted with the Hussler's and old Hammers and then got to cut my teeth fooling with some of those old dogs offspring. Not a bad way to start for sure. Seems like a lot of us got our start hunting with dogs from those lines and Brush Creek Blue. There is still some of that hiding back in a few of the good dogs out there today.
