Stinking Kennel

I have a dirt floor kennel that smells. I clean it regularly but the urine smell is strong. Any suggestions?

spalding labs has a product that I use, works great. lasts for several days. I too have a dirt floor. the more it rains or the more heat there is the worse it gets.

https://www.spalding-labs.com/produ...ts/default.aspx

I still have the first bottle I purchased. lasts a long time. I mix in a hand spray bottle.

Go to lows and get a Round up sprayer. Mix bleach with water and spray the floors. It will kill the odor for about a month per spray.

Posted by croatankid on 08-07-2013 02:14 AM:

if you can, move your kennel to different locations, or make it bigger or put in a hard floor. you can get pieces of broken concrete and put them together like a puzzel and fill in the cracks with kwikcrete. it'll be all cracked up but it works very well.

Or go with gravel floor. My concrete floors stink as well. I have one kennel with gravel and the odor is not nearly as bad as my concrete kennels. Yes they are a little harder to clean but not near the smell.

lime

becareful using the lime, it does work but even at a low % (8-12%) it will cause the soil to reach an excess of 200F when it gets a little rain on it. it will also cause your soil to get hard and everything will sit on top.

lol wont nothing make this sugar sand set up hard , but yeah you can't over do it and when I till it up I go down and work it in about 12'' deep . there isn't ANY bottom on this land , when I first started putting in t-post for the cow panels I whacked many of them only once with the post whacker and they went too deep lol the method I use is to bust it up , lime it , work it in good , and then flood them and smooth them back out .

I alternate using Clorox and Odoban in my dirt kennels. Will usually spray all with one or the other once a month. I keep a small bottle of the Odoban hanging outside to use for touchups as needed, as well. No matter how diligently you clean you have to work to keep the smell down when it's rained as much as it has here this year.
