Dog won't tree anymore

I have a 14 month old pup that started running and treeing in June. Since then he has treed about 50-60 coon and has been doing very good, but in the last week and a half he will go out start his track run it and come back without treeing. Any advice? Thanks

Yeah he has been doing a real good job and had been treeing like he has done it his hole life. I clean his ears once a week and when I hunt him with other dogs they usually run the same track as him but he doesn't tree and they do its like he doesn't smell them there. He checks there tree and moves on.

He might not want to tree with the other dog but last time I took him out he located and didn't tree very hard after that, and a few min. later he came back like he knew he was wrong.

HOW MANY HAVE YOU PUT OUT TO HIM, OUT OF THE 50 OR 60 TREED

Posted by skeets on 08-04-2013 11:38 AM:

hunt him hard by hisself.be careful hunting a young dog with older dogs, all it takes is one dog fight to set the young dog back and it will seem like your starting over again. good luck with him.

If he was mine I'd have him checked by a good vet and have a blood test for all tick diseases.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've put out about half thee coon to him and I think your right he just needs more time and all by himself.

Posted by delta slough on 08-04-2013 06:53 PM:

He could be just tired & burnt out. If he has some health issues, this time of year with all the heay makes it hard on a young dog.I'd take him one more time and shoot the first coon he treed, if possible, then put him in the pen for a month. Let him rest and think a little. This has worked for me several times. Get him checked.Good luck, Jr. Steelman

Isn't there a 14month old slump or something like that?

Posted by HICKORYPRIDE on 08-05-2013 09:51 PM:

YOU GOT HIM BURNED OUT,I'VE DONE IT AND SEEN IT DONE MORE THAN ONCE... 50 TO 60 COONS FROM JUNE TO JULY...WITH THE HEAT AND COONS EATING HIS HEAD UP WILL MAKE A PUP STOP TREEING AND LEAVING A TREE... TRY TO LAY HIM UP A 4 TO 6 WEEKS ,YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS A FEW TIMES AND WHEN HE STARTS BACK TREEING DON'T LET THE COON EAT ON HIM, MAKE SURE THE COON IS KICK OUT AN PUT YOUR PUP ON HIM, MAKE HIM THINK HE DONE IT.. MY YOUNG DOGS GET 1 OUT OF 8 OR 10 TREED UNTIL 3 OR 4 YEAR OLD----- THAT'S JUST ME AND MY WAY WORKS FOR ME

Posted by chaps red oak on 08-05-2013 10:45 PM:

sounds like tick fever seen four or five different dog an pups do the same thing have him check by a good vet

I agree with Valentino. It's probably a simple ear infection that hurts when the dogs barks up a tree. Google: Blue Miracle ear treatment. The ingredients are easy to find, inexpensive, and it works. If it isn't the ears, it could be lime diesease.

Tree

Next time you hunt that dog with another hold your dog up thr tree where it can smell the tree without it being slobbered or rubbed on. You probably have an honest tree dog.

If that doesn't work TIE it up for a couple weeks. The bad ones rarely get good and the good ones rarely go bad!!

Well I took Bobby ( that's my dog) to the vet today and he is healthy and in good shape. Vet said his ears are dirty but fine so i got some ear cleaner. I haven't hunted him in 5 days and the last 2 he has let everyone around know he's ready to go. Lol I bet my nabors hate me. Thanks again for all the good advice and ill let ya know how he does after tonight.
