Search
Just do a search here for "chewing" there have been several threads on it. Lots of remedies but don't know if any work. I have seen dogs start to chew when it get hot outside. Could be that is all it is.

i dont know of a way to break him,i think its bred in them.my buddy had a dog that was bad to chew,so he took him to the vet to get his k9 tooth pulled out the dog still chewed after that.
Not sure of a way to break the chewing, but every one I saw that acted like a beaver always had a coon

chewing
my buddy had a dog that kill every tree he treed and we put a muzzle on him, he never missed a bark !!!!!!
Dogs that chew hardly ever leave a tree. Theres several ways to break the dog. (Two of the best).. You can use hot sauce mixed with a little water in a sprayer ..OR I know some guys wont like it. But you can shock a dog (ONLY)when the mouth hits the tree. You want to start off on the lowest setting ((only)) going higher if it does not work. It will not hurt the dog treeing at all.(If you do it right)..Most dogs turn out to tree ever harder than before. You have to be careful when using a shocking collar. You can ruin or mess up a dog if you don't know how and when to use one. You cant shock them for every little thing they do wrong.. Your not going to fix most problems in a few weeks. It takes months in most cases .

chewing
I have an old walker that I have seen chew bad. Summer is worse than cold weather' but have seen him try it in the winter. The type of tree makes big difference, some of the tree barks he won't even attempt it. I use the light shocker method that chet described, one bump and he won't touch it again.
Chewing is annoying, horrible habbit. But as described by others in this post, when he locates he will be there until you get him, and pretty good about having the coon. The more u hunt him the chewing virtually stops.

I had a dog that chewed the tree pretty bad. I didn't really like that much but I'd take a few more just like him. He could flat out burn a track and caught many a coon on the ground and he was as accurate as any dog I ever hunted with. He passed away last year and I sure miss that old boy.
