Dog Accessory Question

I'm new to coon hunting and have been looking for a better way to transport my rifle. I hate carrying it with a sling because it always wants to slide off my shoulder. I am working on a prototype solution and am looking for feedback if anyone else has this problem and what solution you have come up with. Right now, I am making a rifle scabbard to attach to my dog's back so that when they tree, my rifle is always where they are. I don't keep the rifle loaded and only put bullets in it when I am ready to shoot the coon. I've made a picture below just for reference. My rifle only weighs a few pounds and I don't have a scope on it so if it gets bounced around it won't affect my sights. I can't wait to get this thing fully done and then try it out.

To each his own, but not to sure I would use one. I've never had a problem toting my own gun and it could cause the dog problems in some cases. Barbwire, briars, creeks, sloughs, bayous, etc.....

Let's just say the dog carrying your firearm makes it thru the woods onto personal property, the homeowner catches your dog, calls the game warden, and arrests you for trespassing with a firearm on personal property. Now you are facing a felony and possibly years in prison.

they might lock the dog up but the handler didn't have a firearm good idea lol

If you get that product up and running, I would like to buy one for my dog. I hate carrying a rifle.

Don't stop with a scabbard, put a saddle on that dog and ride it to the tree.

GUN RACK HOUND

That's funny. But if your serious, it would need to be water tight.

I have been teaching my hounds to shoot for awhile now and I have a couple that are pretty good shots but problem I am running into is they can not load the gun "no thumbs" if I can get this worked out I figure I won't even need to leave the truck.

Posted by T.Beyer on 07-30-2013 11:04 PM:

maybe the original poster can photoshop some thumbs on that dog!

Another concern I have is that one of my young hounds has kind of an attitude problem and it would worry me to send him out with a loaded gun.

This is a fantastic idea!! Maybe the most brilliant thing I have ever seen....You sir are a genius.I would absolutely order one. Could you develop a smaller version for my rabbit and squirrel dogs? Maybe one that had a little game bag on it.

Posted by Tom Jones on 07-31-2013 12:14 AM:

ummmmm

Why not just carry a pistol? Problem solved, send me the money you where going to invest in this idea

I could make a smaller version for feists and beagles but it would probably be a pistol version. The addition of a game bag is an idea I hadn't thought of, but makes perfect sense! I'll see if I can build that onto the side of it.

I tested my dogs capacity last night with cinder blocks, and he can get through the woods pretty good with about 30 lbs on him. So he may actually be able to carry the gun and his own coon out of the woods too. I cant wait to turn this idea, into reality.

I shouldn't have posted on this thread. It would have been better to crap in my hands and then started clapping.
