I have used pee gravel for 20 years in my pens and it works great. Buy the same tool they use to clean horse stalls. In the real hot summer time concrete gets real warm and I have seen it stay warm all night. Pee gravel is cheaper to. Put wire down first and then gravel so they cant dig.

I've used sandstone before it worked alright. I'm thinking of making a frame for my kennels to mount on then using agri lime and compacting it hard. Cheaper than cement

I will probably use chicken wire

I use 2x4 welded wire. Then standard size 4 rocks. Chicken wire works for a base too, but it will rust out in a few years.
