Random DNA Testing

What are your guys thoughts on"IF" UKC would randomly DNA test winners at hunts? Everyone is very serious about protecting our bloodlines with DNA, What if at most all of the major events UKC officials would pull a swab from random winners and see if they are really who they say they are? It would be most prevalent in B&T and redbones because of how similar a lot of them look. Just some food for thought. Keep it as nice and friendly as we can, but post your ideas. Thanks

If folks randomly swap dogs and UKC randomly tests ... the odds of catching anyone would be too low to justify the manpower and cost.

Being more consistant , but either catching crooks or assessing we don't need it would be alot faster and cheaper in the long run.

The easiest solution would be for UKC to offer some kind of incentive to microchip Performance dogs and they can be chipped on the spot ... instant results ... of course , the chips might ? could be swapped some .. but surely you'd see the scars or maybe it's not that easy to do ?

I'd say anything is better than nothing though ... randomly testing if it came to a vote or needing support should be near 100%

The micro chip incentive is a good idea. It could be done at all levels of comp also. A local club could have a reader and just swipe them. I bet we would be surprised at some of the results !!

Just wondering,would tatooing not be more affordable and easier. Every race horse must be tatooed , with tatoo # on file. Tatoo # could be on entry card and easily checked on site.?????

Also, only winners or $ earners need to be checked. Or entrants with reasonable question. So most hunts would only require checking a couple dogs..........

I have my doubts you will Sonny. It will be an expenditure the company doesn't need during the downslide of events. I could be wrong. It wouldn't bother me to have our hounds tested, after all we go through the expense to DNA them we should keep our noses clean...

Just a comparison for you guys. How many of you have random drug tests at work? I've worked a few places that did and you always still have to work with drug heads or people that come in drunk or high. Testing isn't going to stop the dishonest only make a hassle for the honest in my opinion.

No TESTING involved. Confirming that dogs alloted hunt titles or earnings, are who they are supposed to be will assist HONEST,SERIOUS breeders to make proper decisions when trying to improve their dogs and the breed......not expensive,not difficult and not rocket science!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen several fired at places I have worked, after failing random drug screens. I guess it all depends on how well the company wants to enforce it.

Hey since we're in dream land, and we no that it wouldn't ever happen I would still be interested in knowing what some of you same guys think about this. At the same time they do the DNA I think it would be kinda cool if they had a way to age those dogs in a precision manner and compare against there birthdate on the papers!!!!

In order to do this every registered dog would have to be DNA tested. That would come out of our pocket and be a bigger expense when registering dogs. Don't know about that one.
