Hunt directions

With todays technology with gps why doesn't UKC put the address of the clubs on the upcoming events list? Sure would make it easier then calling the contact person on the post and bothering them with directions. JMO/?

I agree!! Our club does. I have been to some clubs that their directions are just plain WRONG and will get you lost.

UKC will put the address in the book IF the club gives it to them. They usually don't have the physical address of the club unless the club gives it to them.

Our club does not have an address. We can use a couple of addresses, but they only get you within 1/4-1/2 mile of the club. The problem is the road goes east/west to north/south and then back to east/west. So it can still be confusing.

Than there is the whole issue of these electronic devices are frequently wrong. Example is the Cleveland Clinic. Plug it into a gps and you are likely to end up at a small clinic 20-30 miles away.

Our club is 3 miles from Maple Rapids, but if you plug in Maple Rapids you will not find out club. Yet if you plug in a small town Perrinton 5 miles away, it will get you close. This is, if you don't misspell it.

Technology is not always the answer.

I post some of the hunts for our club, and all addresses and directions are the responsibility of the posting club. I agree with you though, a lot of the time the directions given can be difficult at best. Have been lost more than once.

I'm sure any of us who have gone to a few hunts out of our area have had trouble finding some of these clubs. Sometimes when you call the numbers in the magazine you get no answer.

What really gets me is when the directions say signs posted....but there are none!
I've run into that more than a few times. If your club directions say you'll have signs out, someone please make sure they're really there. Or have UKC take that part out of your directions if you're not going to put signs up anymore.

It would be nice if they would just give the actual gps coordinates.

tried to follow a GPS to the satelite club this year at the winter classic and it carried us into a man's equipment shed. Had to pull out the map and figure it back out from there, which carried us straight to it. GPS is great, but they are not the cure all for finding your way.

Signs will be posted!

Seen lots of paper plates but the best one I have ever seen was a styrofoam coffee cup on a fence post.
