Road Runners
Iv Got a young Blue tick male 9 months old , He is stricking from the box and will hunt fine he just dont seem to know where to hunt, I think it was Raby Smith, that said he didnt like to hunt his hound around alot of water cause it would make them strait line !
what do yawl do to point your hounds in the write direction, the Bluetick will hunt hes not just road running he hunts in the dictches and banks of the road so i know hes looking for game.
i can beep him on the collar an he will come to me when i call him but i dont want him to stop hunting i just want him to go in the right direction. hes going to be alright he just dont have his bearings strait yet lol Iv hunted a lot of yound hounds in my years of Handling dogs , but iv never had one quit like this one , he is going to be a challenge !

First thing you want to do is get out away from your truck
Second thing you want to do is lead him 300 to 400 yards into the woods.
Third thing you want to do is turn him loose.
If you are just hunting him from the truck that is what he will learn to do.
Get him started good in the woods ,soon as he finds out that those critter's live in the woods and not on a road bank you will see a big difference in him.
Good luck friend with your young dog.

road hunting
not sure if you are talking about "road hunting". we have a walker now that road hunts like a dog is supposed to. he jogs at a steady pace in front of the truck as you drive behind him. they strike off the road, not going off in the woods here and there. if one is trained properly to road hunt they dont wonder off. the best way to condition them to hunt like this, is put themwith a dog that already road hunts well. but we seldom road hunt until kill season and typically walk hunt them more anyways. its a good way though to cover a lot of ground

Hunt with WALKER
I've always turned them loose , pointing they I wanted them to go , and then started walking in that direction.
Might have to encourage them a little every now and then , but never really had any troubles with a dog learning to go the way I pointed them.

Just all 'round , meat gettin' hounds.
ive never had a problem like that i dont think. all i do is shine my light in the direction i want them to hunt and start walking that way.if that dogs bred to hunt and you keep on hunting him he will start knocking a hole in them dark places right shortly.lol
Getting a dog to hunt in the preferred direction is just another piece of training. If my pup goes the wrong way, I run her down, (ok, these days my much younger hunting partner runs her down) and spank her ass back to the turnout point and resend her. Repeat as often as necessary. Repetition is boring and probably the biggest part of pup training.

if your gonna walk them 300 yrds why you need to get another hound. Point and shoot, i may walk a young dog in the woods 50 yards away from truck, but that is bout it. heck i have cur dogs that i just point and shoot.
