-- Asian Carp. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928328284)

Asian Carp.

The catfish club here has teamed up with one of the boat clubs and is having an Asaian Carp contest. Last year there was 6000 pounds of fish caught in four hours. Here is the problem what to do with all this fish. No one wants them back in the water. Anyone know if you could chop up the fish and feed it to your dogs. It's summer time and I have a freezer that I keep my hides in. What are some of your thoughts?

I don't see why you couldn't feed them to dogs. I know that the sled dog racers up North feed a ton of fish to their dogs. They don't cook them or anything just feed each dog whole frozen fish. Another idea would be to check with some of the trapping supply companies around here. I know that there is at least a company or two out of minnesota that makes trapping baits and lures. If I had access to fish like that I would set up a few coon feeder stations and start some young dogs. You could check with Mickey Ihnen up here he is the manager of Potter Furs in Bridgewater SD. He bought a big commercial 3 Phase Hobart meat grinder and was experimenting with making different trapping baits last year. His number is 605-940-4732.

I been wondering the same thing, I have a friend that bow fishes and they always have a lot of fish. I would like to find a way to feed it to my dogs and hogs, my concern with these rough fish is the bones, seems like they would need to be cooked or skinned.

Fishing was slow biggest fish in was only 18 lbs. best stringer of 5 was 41 lbs. and no pics I was shot after four hours of sleep in 48 hours and 20 hours in the boat. But we will do it all again next year.

No anyone can get in. There are a few big tournaments around that pay out upwards of $5000 to win. The Skilly Slam payed $500 big stringer and down to third place. Than every one puts in $5 each for big fish pot. The pot was $565 this year.

i feed my dogs fish and they love it. i don't have to but i throw them on the grill for a couple of minutes and give each dog a fish. they learn to eat them just like the bears do and the fish is good or them too. when i go fishing i keep every thing i catch. the little ones, the ones folks don't eat and store them for the dogs.

GA Dawg is on the right track. The fish makes excellent bait for hunters and trappers! May be able to sell the whole catch to Charles Dobbins! trapperman.com

if these dog food companies would use these carp for there main source of protein and omega fats, it would be a win/win for everyone involved. should cheapen up the cost of dog food. and have a market for the carp. but what do I know!
