nite hunts
im going to start geeting into hunts and I was wanting peoples opinions on what I need to expect, know, and need
Spectate First,
Practice the rules while pleasure hunting with someone who knows them,,
Read the rules, read the rules, and read the rules. Every time you sit down read the rules and read them close. Know your dogs bark every bark it pulls you had better know it.
Go hunt with people who knows the rules and act like its competition hunt a few times so you'll get the feel of everything so when you enter your first hunt you'll know what goes on and be prepared for it

Know the rules
All of the above is good advice but really, nobody "knows" the rules when they hit their first few hunts because so much of the rules can only be learned by actual experience. You learn them as you use them and experience them. And that is why I would say the most important thing for a first timer is supporting a club with a reputation for honesty and honest members. There are good clubs and there are not so good clubs. I kook back at my first year of competing and I realize how lucky I was to be hunting out of a club that assured me of having a strong, honest judge on those first casts.
I would avoid at all cost any of those clubs that normally draw 5 or 6 dogs.

go
Have fun and be a sponge don't expect to win just try not to take any - and you will do fine if you find yourself getting excited take a few deep breaths and re focus no - helps at the end and don't give up if you are behind a littler remember there dogs and them might make a mistake also!

ok thanks everyone. would I just have to order a rule book off ukc?
Lots of folks Prolly know the rules a lot better than me but Id just get a scorecard and study on it. Dive right on in. You'll learn things best as you go. Go to have fun. Don't go always worried someone is going to always cheat you. If you do. That's how you'll go home. Feeling cheated
Its not near as bad as folks on here make out. Sure your going to run into some crazy stuff but for the most part. Most coon hunters are good people!!!!
