What a long track tonight!

It was well over a mile down the river! They crossed river twice back and forth and they finally put it up a monster den tree, ive honestly never seen a tree that big before! Is anyone else have long tracks like I am?

Took my pup out tonight by herself, she ran and treed her first tonight with no help. Only about 250 yards. Night before last ran and treed one at 400 yards. I haven't had a long chase since winter. Most been around 400 to 800 yards. Kinda nice not having to climb these mountains this time of year.

My dog spent an hour and a half tracking through WRP land till I finally shocked her and called her in. That coon was not going to go up a tree and I was tired.

It took us a good 45 minutes to a hour to put the coon we treed tonight up the tree, the bugs were terrible on the river so we shut off our lights they were so bad, I'm ready for fall so they ain't as bad. It seems to me during the fall and winter the tracks seem to be alot shorter and faster

I am treeing coon fast and within 250-300 of the truck. Litters seem to be out and its a great time of year to be hunting a starting dog.

Every summer they are like this. Maybe it's the hot weather? But once summer ends they usually take 15-25 minutes to tree (depending on the terrain).

Al, If I could have advised, I would have said don't post about long tracks or running coons. There are some folks on the board who freak out and know all about what your running but they have never hunted where your hunt. Your asking for trouble suggesting that it could possibly take longer than 10 minutes to run one up.

Yeah I already found that out the hard way. Oh well haters are gonna hate

RoughAndReady Al and I have been through this on a thread I posted. Good Luck

I've had some long tracks, it seems to be boars, and usually in woods that aren't very thick, the thicker the woods the quicker they seem to tree.

I was hunting a river bank next to a open wooded area and it seemed to run pretty far. You're right the thicker it is the quicker they tree

The kittens are going to climb quick and the sows not much longer but the big old boars are still out there and they can be stubborn to climb sometimes but what do I know I'm just an old country coon hunter not a seasoned comp hunter with a world beater on my lead. All I have is a few dogs that make me happy.

That's the same with me, there's nothing like hearing the sound of a coon dog open up on track, that long bawl is music to my ears. I could listen to it all night!!

The area I hunt has large open bottoms with no trees when a coon goes into these areas they will usually go in the ground when they get tired of playing with the dog in the WRP wetlands.

Does anyone hunt swamps? I'm kinda curious on how the tracks are there

I've been hunting some swamplands and it seems the tracks have been so so. I've had long tracks that my pup goes 3/4 of a mile in 15 minutes and some that were just in a small area with standing water and reeds that lasted 40 minutes and my pup was not making it to the tree. We've had about 30 inches of rain in a month, so I'm letting some of my more swampy areas dry out.

They seem to be changing their times they move. I was around 1, but I'm not sure now. Gonna try in the morning next chance I get.

I'm use to hunting rivers and ponds but I've always wanted to hunt a swamp just because I like to try new things I figured the tracks would be alot tougher
